HI,

I'm moving to Qatar with my wife and 1 year old son.

I was planning on saving some money whilst I'm there and wondering if it would be possible to live a comfortable life on 7000QR a month?

My accomodation is provided and so this amount will involve costs of the following:-

Car(either lease or Buy on loan)
Car insurance/ Fuel
Food/ essentials
Electricity, water, gas
Mobile phones
TV/Internet/ Telephone
some for days out/ social activities

I know its not cheap to live in Doha but just trying to work out if I can save as much as I plan too

thanks

Vegas,

you're saying that we should be paid at least 55K QR? Plus company car & villa to survive?

I'm now abit worried as I have just accpeted an offer of 20K QR to be increased to 22K QR after probation and annual increment and with other benefits like 10K QR for housing, 2K QR for transport & school educationfor my kids.

Do advise as my flight is scheduled for 15/11/2011.

Most blow their money like there is no tomrrow...

They take out loans they can't afford then they in prison here basically cause they can't leave...

I won't say how much I am saving a month...

But it's alot and I still live comfortable and take many vacations...Qatar is great...And no tax...

Hi,

Yes Ray82 got it right, I have budgeted to live off 7000QR a month and I do not intend to save anything from this.

From what people have said it seems like it may be possibe to live off this as the intention is strict saving unless we fall in love with the place and decide we can stay there for many years to come.

As someone else has posted it would be crazy to go to Qatar for only 7000QR a month but my intention is to try and live off this amount so I can save the rest.

Are there any UK people out there who have found that they can live a decent liffestyle on a strict budget or do you tend to get carried away with thelifestyle?

People the man meant he has budgeted 7000QR for his monthly exp.

As he wants to save the rest of his wages....

I would say with 7000QR can be enough if you're plan is strictly saving!!

You say "we." Actually you cannot sponsor your wife and child with a salary of only 7000QR month. Ask your employer if you will have married accommodations. On 7000 you usually don't.

Yes you can save around 2000 QR with following budget

Car : 1200 Per month provided you own a car with 5 year tenure, i am talking about car ( Nissan Altima, Nissan tiida, Toyota corolla or equivalent)

Food : 2000 QR comfortably,

Phone / water / electricity/internet : 500 QR

Outing / misc expenses : 500 per month

so total around 4500 - 5000 would be sufficient

I don't think you will be able to save, and your budget will be rather tight. Minimum 1800 a month for cheap car ( to buy with bank loan) and petrol. Insurance and utilities is about 800, minimum. Food about 2000. All around household items, pharmacy, etc. 400. We are already on 5000. We still didn't buy even 1 piece of clothes, didn't spend a penny for the car maintenance, for mobiles, for dinners out, we didn't spend a dime for couple of drinks in the bar, for gifts on our friend's birthday, for couple of bottle of wine home, for little home decoration.. We didn't put anything aside for next traveling, we didnt go to the movies.. All that will leave you with zero (good if not with minus) at the end of the month... as all these "little" extras are expensive here.. To save? I doubt...Unless you will give up on everything, and will spend only your very basic 5000.

For us Filipinos...that salary is enough! and we are surviving for 3 yrs...but I don't think it will be enough for you as I saw your profile that you are from UK.
