Cost of these items in Qatar?
Hi folks,
I'm considering moving to Qatar and wondering about the costs of the following items over there? Your advice would be much appreciated :)
Water =
Electricity =
Any other utility to pay for? =
Car (for eg. Honda Accord or Nissan Altima) =
Car Insurance =
Internet =
Mobile phone + monthly bill (average)=
Clothing (Men's office wear) =
Clothing (Men's casual wear) =
Groceries (average)=
TV (46+ inch) =
Gym membership =
Cleaning services = (1-2 times per week) =
What are health & dental expenses like? I'm assuming most employer-provided insurances cover most health-related expenses?
I already have a fairly estimate on housing costs. No kids in the picture. Is there any other major expense I should consider adding?
Thanks
A car and driver to pick you up regularly and take you where you need to go.
ok
Thanks everyone for the valuable info.
1 question though - what exactly is a "car service"? Is it like a car lease, or driver only? How does it work and cost etc.?
Thanks
for the gym it varies from 300 to 2000 QAR depending on the duration, and quality of the gym.
IKR? the bus and taxi service by Karwa is definitely unlikable. It's better to find independent transportation. there's a lot of people offering this kind of gig to earn extra.
there is a bus system, but probably not something an expat might want to use. Taxi's are hard to get - if you don't want to drive, get a car service - they are reasonably priced and more reliable than taxis.
Water and Electricity - about 500 QAR per month for three bedroom villa
No other utilities
Cars - see www.carsemsar.com - cars are about 1/2 the price they are in Australia
Car insurance - about 4% of purchase price
Internet - 250 to 350 QAR per month depending on package
Mobile phone - varies according to use. About the same as UK or Australia
Clothing - office wear - hand made to measure qulity cotton shirts - about 120 QAR each. Trousers about double that.
Casual wear - no idea
Groceries - cheap subsidised. Australian lamb about 25 to 45 QAR per kilo, Arab and Indian lamb more expensive. Beef, great steak, quite cheap if its from Australia or NZ, more expensive from US. Indian and Pakistani beef very cheap but not for barbecue or frying.
Vegetable relatively cheap and huge variety. Don't buy Aussie fruit, it looks great but has no flavour and goes off very quickly.
TV - check out lulu or carrefour online catalogues.
Gym membership - still no idea
Cleaning - cheap but lock away your alcohol as it seems to thin out while the cleaner is in the house.
Petrol - 1 QAR per litre
No public transport
Rent - anything from 5000 QAR to 35000 QAR per month - check my blog to get an idea of quality (waggingthedog.wordpress.com)
If you are offered US $ 15-20,000 P/Month , worth moving out here as housing and children education is sky high .
Employer-provided insurance covers government healthcare at public clinics. Dental is not provided. Cars are perhaps 10% more than in North America. Car insurance is 4% of the value of the car per year.
