@knox, if you ever search I suggest using an arabic newspaper as I find there are better deals on there.
(Side note, I'm a single Qatari and my housing allowance is only 3k max and expats generally get alot more)
@PM, I'm alright, I'm now in London again for a week. Just arrived yesterday. It's been a very busy period, job, two new businesses, finally settling into the new apartment and so on.
I've been speaking to a woman from Helping Hands UAE who's given me some great advice as what to do to help labourers. I now am searching for someone to donate warehouse spce and seeing if the Human Rights Authority wants to help by managing what I've started.
Thanks for your very insightful comments. Next time I will read the classified section of Gulf-Times very carefully. Are you also getting newspaper on Time?
I'll give you the ADDRESS to my place and you can SEE for yourself.
It's brand new as well.
There are two places above mine which are VACANT for 4k.
I'm really tired of some of your comments which try to make me seem like a liar.
I'm telling you where I live, I don't know the guy, and this is the price for EVERYONE!
Send me a pm with a FRIENDLY request rather than always attacking my comments and I'll also give you a number for two apartments in Najma, they're not palaces but they're good for the money and being refurbished.
8k for two bedroom, two bathroom, lounge, kitchen
and 9k for three bedroom and HUGE lounge, two bathrooms and kitchen.
As for the 5% rule, t_coffee is spot on.
I could say the same think though, I do think there are two Qatars. One where people like you would rather insult someone and not believe anything positive anyone says and another where there are those that try to get along and try to learn.
@alphabattle and freon, it'll be my pleasure, I'll send a pm asap. :)
Dude then all the Qataris would be bringing cars from dubai and selling them in Qatar for a profit.
I dont think there is anything in the law that states Qataris dont have to pay the 5% tax. What happens when the Qatari registers the car in Qatar? still no 5% tax?
I guess I am really bad in microeconomics and macroeconomics
You only pay 4000 riyals and you live in a compound. Either the compound is own by your uncle or the next scenario is that you have rented a room with an attached bathroom in the compound and you are paying 4000 riyals for it.
Seriously you wanna sublet that villa for 8000 riyals. let me know. I know lots of people who might be interested in taking that villa
And as for the 5% rule, medo was saying that when he brought his car from dubai to Qatar he had to pay 5% as tax. And yes it implies to all imports.
Man sometimes I feel there are two Qatars. one for people like amnesia and one for people like us.
@medo, then you haven't gone to my father's rent a car business located near salwa road. I think you seriously need to do some shopping around. Perhaps you're one of those people that just looks at one or two places and then settles.
As for that 5% rule, I find it EXTREMELY odd, because I've never paid that 5%, it only applies to IMPORTS.
Finally, when it comes to appartments, if you've gone to some threads you'll SEE that I give people examples.
I live in a BRAND NEW compound and pay QR4,000 only. Or perhaps I'm only dreaming.
Just because you have bad luck getting a good deal, don't try to make it seem like the world is shaped around your wallet.
medo .... seems you have done an extensive research on russians chinese and filipinas girls................... i think one can take your advise before travelling to Dubai ;-)
Doha: expensive, boring, bad quality, car more expensive, taxi forget to find any, street very narrow and bad condition, local drive like crazy to catch nothing
Dubai: more devolped, nice places , all level of quality and prices, street traffic but nice and good condition, local drive like crazy to catch thier appoinment with russian girls or fillipinas

i like dubai coz everything is der not like hir! hahaha i miss my girl der in dubai hope we see each other agen!
juz enjoy our life here in qatar maybe soon doha will become better than dubai
i checked that funny list for cost of life in qatar at that site i love qatar
it looks that the one who make it he never live in qatar
to rent salaon car 1300 i rent lancer for 1900
and i never find car less than 1800
also flat rental where u can flat for 3000 and is it for human or what
come on my dear go to qatar 1st than make such list
You don't need to make research in dubai
just go to Dubai ski, or city center
and u will found the most beautiful girls in thw world there
if u don't know qatar has 5% tax to the cars
even when i want to bring my car from dubai to qtar they ask me to pay that 5%
u need to go to dubai to know how it is cheaper
also u should drive to street like Naser street one lane only
u belive that u will never find one lane street for commercial street in dubai
@medo, if you think cars are more expensive, you need to seriously look again. Saudi is the cheapest, followed by Qatar. Emirates is MORE expensive.
I think it's absolutely crazy to say "Even the chinese here are ugly" compared to Dubai.
If it has such a beautiful fountain of youth over there, I seriously wonder what you're doing here indeed.
Oh and guess what? We can find more beautiful girls in Shanghai, let's all go there according to your logic :D

medo .... seems you have done an extensive research on russians chinese and filipinas girls................... i think one can take your advise before travelling to Dubai ;-)

i just came from dubai one month
it was big mistake to come here
Doha: expensive, boring, bad quality, car more expensive, taxi forget to find any, street very narrow and bad condition, local drive like crazy to catch nothing
Dubai: more devolped, nice places , all level of quality and prices, street traffic but nice and good condition, local drive like crazy to catch thier appoinment with russian girls or fillipinas
Doha and Dubai are near identical, except Dubai is more developed.
Except Doha is cheaper.
On a side note, what's wrong with chinese?

Dubai is better than Doha in all, especially in life style and living standard. ppl are more educated over there than here.
Respect 4 Everyone
"in Doha quality is rare, whilst in Dubai you get the quality you are paying for."
Very true. Doha you get Chinese and Dubai you get Russians :)
Doha and dubai are equally expensive. Difference is, in Doha quality is rare, whilst in Dubai you get the quality you are paying for.
no russians in doha...
but they are more expensive...
Doha Zoo is better than Dubai zoo. Doha zoo has the world's thinnest Elephant. World Record.
traffic is killing in Dubai
Everything is better in Dubai, simple.
thats what i like in doha:)
Camel's milk is cheaper here.
i havent been to dubai but i think both sucks:)
