I am due to arrive in Qatar 1st March. My girlfriend will be with me for 1 week, & i hope you guy's can tell me some good places to visit & socialise straight away before she returns to the UK. Hopefully i can meet some of you & make friends before i am left all alone :-(
Thanks people, maybe some of us can hook up, & give wach other some advise & tips on living out here.
Maybe a a dedicated page on "how to" get internet access, car insurance, bank accounts, utilities etc...stuff we take for granted back home. Waht do you think Qatari?
Any way AusM any any others, here's my email if you want to get in touch before i leave the uk: [email protected]
Shehrazad on 1st floor of the ramada has a pool table. Thats the place they have UK stand up comedy from the Laughter Factory about once every two months.
I haven't been to The Pearl at the Marriott, but we do make it out to Paloma's on occasion. It may be no concern for you, but at $8 US per beer at many hotel bars, Garvey's (and I'm guessing Rugby Club) are better options for me at $5 pints.
If you are talking about pool AND beer, then options are limited to hotels, expat bars, or apartment clubhouses. I'm not aware of any hotels that have pool tables, but that doesn't mean that there isn't one somewhere. Garvey's has a pool table. There are pool halls along Al Matar (airport road), but there is heavy construction over there right now AND the aforementioned lack of beer.
My wife went to the DJ party at Diplomatic Club a few weeks ago, and had a good time. They should be having more of those coming up. It's not really my scene though.
I'm off to count the beer to photo ratio on my blog... :)

Hi Deano, i moved over from Australia 3 weeks ago and am keen to meet people as well. I have checked out Paloma, its quite good.
Bottles QR12 at rugby club I think
Pearl is the best venue but awful staff and clientele. Unfortunately it has a no jeans policy (for guys) so it is not that popular.
Music can also be a bit arabic on occasion.
