heavy costs at small grocery shops
We had to buy few veggies only for this week and instead to going to Al meera or Lulu we thought we would just buy from a small grocery thinking that he will charge only a mx of 50 dirhams to 1 rial etc than the super markets.
The shop name is AL abdulla AL namma & sons grocery and registration number is 4270. the owner charged very high prices for all the vegetables .. for 1/2 kg tomato its 4 rial whereas these days its just 1 rial per kg, for 1/4 kg marrow he charged 4 rial whereas its just even less than 1 rial per kg and many more .... the list goes .. i have never purchased 5 phil bananas medium size for 8 rials.
thought that i'll share my exepriecne with u guys in QL ...
can any action b taken against such grocers.
In my book, any shop should be allowed to charge whatever they want. Supply and demand will dictate a fair price - as has been the case since the dawn of time. The only problem is when a monopoly exists, which is obviously not the case in terms of groceries. If a store overcharges me, I've learned my lesson and never go back - unless it's for convenience and I'm willing to pay the price for that.
I don't think it's ethical to post shop name and registration number. If he wants to chase away customers by having a bad business plan, so be it. If he can get people to pay thrice or 4 times the price for convenience, good on him.
Just my two cents...
put the show owners fathers name and his wife name and how many kids he have........how dumb.
It is neither laziness nor convenience issue. Some of the small groceries are like that. They do not have any pricing policy. They are over charging many people on many items as they dont have enough cusotmers now and they are taking the advantage of such customers who are in a hurry. Their rents would have gone up and they dont have enough turnover to cover it on a daily basis and they are squeezing everyone who is shopping there. Most of their customers residing nearby are not hypermarket custormers and are unaware of the market prices of tomato or marrow so they pay what ever the grocer ask them to pay and eventually they will charge every one in the same manner.
hey t_cofee_or_me y should i delete the shop name and regs iteration number ?
yes agree its for convenience i shopped there ... i didn't want to waste my time searching for parking space and stand in queue for payment ... but there should b a limit .. cannot take thrice or four times the original charge ...
Its the same in almost every small shops. Everyone is going to the biggest supermarkets and they will never get the business as much. So they may hike the price a little. If you are feeling the price is very high you can bargain. I know if you are bargaining they will slash the price. Even he is not coming to your line, just cancel the deal n find another shop. Simple..! U have many choices and he has many other customers..!
It is a question of convenience pay more don't crib
It may not be a question of laziness, but it is a question of convenience.
These small shops are closer to your home and are easy to get to. They also have higher operating costs, especially when selling perishable goods.
It is ridiculous to expect that a small shop selling tomatoes and potatoes can match the prices of the same goods in Lulu or Carrefour. Of course they are going to be more expensive.
If you don't like it, don't shop there.
i agree with her... ive this so many times.... and its got nothing to do with lazyness..sometimes it urgent and cant really go to the hyper markets.... the smaller shops always quote twice or thrice the amount it costs in syper markets... and if i remembered all the nsames and registration numbers of these groceries... i would have mentioned them too.....totally agree with her experience.
Don't blame the small shop for your laziness...
Delete the name and registration number of the shop.
Simply dont buy from them.
