Living cost getting wrost in Qatar

Qatar is becoming expensive place to live and have challanged most of the low income group expats. to send their families back home since no other alternative. Most of the small grocery / garments/ trading materials etc. shops have their own way to decide the price. Concern authorities should have some regulation like in india (MRP - maximum retail price) printed on every item to not allow any shopkeeper to decide and have their own price tags.

I did notice some price increase on foods and groceries., probably because the increase is just 25 or 50 dirhams thats why you didnt notice that Peter. But housing cost increased dramatically since i first moved in sometime in March or April of this year :(

I don't think prices have increased since when they did the 120 % salary increase. I am not saying Qatar is cheap, because I do think everything here costs more than it should. But, I keep a close eye on the prices of things that i buy and I did not notice any price increase especially on foods and groceries.

Is there any Tenancy office in Qatar? If yes then i think they are totaly failed in controlling landlords.. Sometines it seems that Landlords think themselves above the law.. Our landlord increase our house rent every month and behave very rudely.. Sometimes it hurts my ego he dont even think of someone's self-esteem.

Michael why does indians living in qatar be bothered about living cost in india vice versa. You just throw your posts without being reasonably right brother.

Well it applies to every expatriate, they will be worried about the cost of living in the country they reside ...

Housing rents are disproportionately higher in Qatar because most of the working crowd cannot even afford it. And as such Qatar is not such a populous place. Then why does this happen?

Prism Indians are less bothered about the corruption and price hikes in India and moaning about the price hikes in Qatar wont do any good to the expats its just that simple

And there was an article in the Peninsula a couple of days ago which said that with 15,000 new houses coming up on the market the rents would continue to drop - so make sure you negotiate and shop around before you commit!

Please people!!! I was slaughtered on QL Forum when I suggested the prices of groceries would increase! The theory was that groceries would not increase as people would not be buying more of those items than usual! So why do I see increases of at least around 20% wherever I go, whether fish, meat or other consumables?

But hey - I was soooooo wrong, wasn't I?????

Qatar recently announce increase upto 120% of salaries for the locals.. And locals (landlords) increase their houses rents upto 120%.. Why their hunger for money is increasing day by day... Why they dont think about low class peoples living in Qatar..? And they also know that Qatar's 50% economy's based on these low class expatriates (labors, drivers, security guards etc etc)...

Its true Qatar is becoming expensive but I still see a lot of crowd in most of the gold shops flooded with Indian buyers only. Not one gold shop is closed in last 5 years rather new ones are coming up in every corner.

Prices increasing is controlled by the ministry and it is balanced. Pls do not compare with your Indian MRP, even there it differs from shop to shop. One must learn to be a " Roman while u r in Rome "

That is what Qatar is known for.

A 50 dirham water can cost upto 5 QR according to place and people who buy it. And 5 QR chips can cost upto 30QR when unpacked and sold it another box.

It happens only in Qatar.

The above thing is true and I experienced it recently. Dont they have shame to sell 50 dirham water for 5 QR.

Where is the law?
