Hello,
My wife gave birth like 2 days ago; she's working in Doha since May 2008. Her comapny refused to give the Maternity leave as the Qatari laws states that she should be one year employed; tis is law is like since 2004; does anybody knows if there is any ammendments or addition to the law in order to better serve the employee?
Thanks,

Ohh No Zahi, wats this?? Ur wife's employer have refused to grant her maternity leave?? I m surprised..I m working with a contracting company..I joined my present company last MARCH 2007 and i got pregnant on AUGUST 2007..well its true that i didnt join my present company with an idea to get pregnant..its just a god's gift..i m already married for 5yrs..Coming to ur point, my employer's not only gave me maternity leave, infact they always allowed me to go for monthly check up whenever the doctors have called me..I delivered in the april 2008 and i got maternity leave as per QATAR law..And u wont believe, my employer's r even allowing me to go 1hr early coz it states in the LAW that a NURSING WOMEN can go either 1hr early or can go for 1hr in between office hrs..I opted for one hr early..My baby is 6month now and i m still going 1hr early..but yes from 1st december, i need to work as per my usual timing..

As one of the QL member suggested that it depends sometimes the relation with ur superiors..So may be i m lucky in that..But plzz try to go WOMEN RIGHT COMMISSION and ask abt the details..BEST LUCK...

It is her right to take maternity leave. If they don't allow it then they're quite frankly silly, effectively blaming her for getting pregnant (and they should have taken this into account when they employed her). If they continue to make problems then she can take this to the National Human Rights Commission.
