Injectable Oxygen Could Help People Breath Underwater; Keep Patients Alive After Lung Failure. Led by Dr. John Kheir of the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Boston, Chemical engineers, particle scientists, and doctors at Boston Children’s Hospital have invented a micro-particle that can be injected into your bloodstream to oxygenate your blood – without any help being required from your lungs. They have developed an injectable foam suspension containing self-assembling, lipid-based microparticles encapsulating a core of pure oxygen gas for intravenous injection. Prototype suspensions were manufactured to contain between 50 and 90 ml of oxygen gas per deciliter of suspension. Particle size was polydisperse, with a mean particle diameter between 2 and 4 μm. When mixed with human blood ex vivo, oxygen transfer from 70 volume % microparticles was complete within 4 s. When the microparticles were infused by intravenous injection into hypoxemic rabbits, arterial saturations increased within seconds to near-normal levels; this was followed by a decrease in oxygen tensions after stopping the infusions. The particles were also infused into rabbits undergoing 15 min of complete tracheal occlusion. Oxygen microparticles significantly decreased the degree of hypoxemia in these rabbits, and the incidence of cardiac arrest and organ injury was reduced compared to controls. The ability to administer oxygen and other gases directly to the bloodstream may represent a technique for short-term rescue of profoundly hypoxemic patients, to selectively augment oxygen delivery to at-risk organs, or for novel diagnostic techniques. Furthermore, the ability to titrate gas infusions rapidly may minimize oxygen-related toxicity.

These are again defying human norms , breath and exhale thats the role of our lungs which inhale oxygen and exhale waste gasses / CO2 , but science defy every thing ,medical procedures like this one are part of our evolution to adopt the changes on our dying planet or whatever science can write on their journals.

Actually babies don't breathe any liquid when they are in womb. They get oxygen from the placenta. Lungs are not fully functional and are not even able to fully expand until after birth. They take their first breath when they are born.

Get real guys who are saying people lived for 500 years in 1500 and did not have to breath... both statements are not possible.... there has to be some common sense in "folk" legends.. sounds similar to Herculis moving mountains... actually it is more believable...

btw... i used to be able to hold my breath for 2.5 minute.... not sure if I can still do that

Experts are saying the potential uses for this new particle could extend to military, covert teams, even oil rig crews who would be able to breathe underwater for 30 minutes at a time without coming above for air.

They did not actually experiment and formulate Injectable oxygen to help people Breath under water But their main purpose for this is to help patient. This could be stored in syringes on every code cart in a hospital, ambulance, or transport helicopter to help stabilize patients who are having difficulty breathing.

It could sustain patients between 15 and 30 minutes after experiencing respiratory failure. According to Dr. Kheir who led for the experiment about Injectable Oxygen This is a short-term oxygen substitute a way to safely inject oxygen gas to support patients during a critical few minutes,"

Yes exactly!!! but with Injectable Oxygen it Could Help People Breath without any help being required from our lungs. When we are in our mother's womb we are required to breath and shared oxygen from our mother so we are able to keep alive and breath.

it should be very very short term rescue, and done by highly trained professional.

brething not only supply fresh Oxygen; it get rid of excess CO2. in this technique, O2 is provided, but the CO2 is not evacuated. CO2 pressure will skyrocket in seconds, and tissues acidity (CO2 is a mild acid) can be fatal.
