A reasonable offer
Hi all. I am in a confused state. I was very excited to recently receive a teaching offer from a school in Doha, Qatar after a telephone call from the head of the primary. I have been offered a package of 12,000QR a month (roughly £2100), a one bedroom apartment with utilities paid (not phone or net) and one annual flight (I would have to pay for my wife to get there which they will arrange and I pay back in instalments). There is no transport allowance. Am I selling myself short?
I am pretty sure I would be exempt from the UK tax laws as they say that if you out of the country for an average of 91 days a year or over (worked out over a four year average), you do not pay UK tax. I will not be leaving until August so I will be paying in to the system during the tax year anyway.
I have been reading a lot about teaching in Qatar and am really unsure now. I am on the M6 UK payscale (about £31,000 a year, take home of about £1900 a month). Is a salary scale used in Qatar? Or as it is a business, it is decided on what they feel?
Would I be pushing my luck asking for more? I don't want to start pushing my luck too early and lose any chance of working there! I survive well on £1900 a month here and I pay rent of £400, car insurance, petrol, phone bill, internet, BT vision and so and so on...
HELP! Thanks.

maybe that offer is just to low!
A one-bedroom apartment, no transportation allowance and single-status, and the GES - the negatives are adding up. Let's just say that the best you will ever be treated is in the pre-hiring phase.

Ask for more money! Request that they pay to send your wife back with you on home leave. They should definitely pay and process her visa.
If you don't want to drive, this might not be the place for you. Relying on taxis would not be fun.
Good Luck!
Nothing harm to bargain once.I have seen over 60 percent of cases they increased,so just request them to reconsider this offer and ask them about your wife visa work as well.Which school offered you?I am asking because there are certain schools here should not to be joined!!!why cant they put your wife as dependent so you will get larger accomodation and her flight ticket as well!
Good Luck
Hmm, sounds like you will be paid a bit more than in the UK, factoring in housing and no taxes as well as a 10% salary rise. I would very much want to ask your employer if they will asset your wife in getting a residency permit. Your major cost will be a car, will the school help you with that in terms of a loan? Schools tend to pay whatever they darn well feel like here, the big thing is to check out the reputation of the school and its management. The big question is - do you want to come?
