YOu can find something similar to what you are looking for in your price range but it is not going to be top notch. you should be able to find a flat no problem but villas are still in the 11,000 and up range. If you find a new villa on compound for less than 11,000 thats a great price.

If you can wait until after the summer I would suspect that rents will go down further as a lot of expats are leaving this year with the financial crisis. Many have their kids in school and are riding out the year.

As for agents, sad fact of life. If you find a decent place and they are asking for commision I guess youhave to weigh out the saving over the rental period.

I am so pleased this topic has come up. I was going to post a forum and also ask for help.

I have been house hunting for about a month now. The company has only given us 9000QR. I have been looking at villas around 10 and 11, realising we will have to put money in ourselves, but we also have to buy furnicher. Some places have no cupboards or facilities.

Please tell me, am I being unrealisic in a search for a villa with built in cupboards, a swimming pool, back area or kids playgroud for 10 000. How else do you find a property to rent, if you dont use the agents?

I was told about an apartment for rent, but with a year paid in advance - I told them to take a hike. Worldwide that is not a common practise. On principal I would not do that. I dont understand why landlords have to be so greedy and ask for such rediculars rentals or the agents charging 5000QR commission on a rental of 8000 QR.

Any advice would be appreciated.

good news is that rents are dropping down .. we r presently put up in a one bed one toilet hall/dining n kitchen paying 6500 plus water and electricity ... this is a partitioned portion of a very old villa in madinath khalifa...

thinking of changing the house as i could c that rents have declined ... now u can avail easily a two bed, two toilet protion with 5500/- .

Just a side note.... they are asking for money on advance to either rent the property out to numerous people and bugger off with the money or to ensure that they will be getting this rate for a full year as prices are plummeting. As in another post, people are saying they are able to get out of their rent contracts with a few months notice.

You go and look at MHC and see how many people are coming to DOHA everyday. Than you will know how easy or difficult to get a right flat and cheaper price during a short time. This is what I think only. I am new and don't really know about the renting system.

Be careful with the Egyptian real estate mafia lead by Mrs. Mazna Madi KH M Alhajri. More than 100 cases filed against her, checks reaching 20 million QR, already been to jail and released for 1500 QR. And NO, never pay in advance! You don't live "in advance" so why should you pay?

These types of agents are parasites, taking commissions from the renter and the owner and infalting the rents. Wait a bit, rents are coming down and one major realestate "middle man" company in Doha has already gone bankrupt. I dont feel sorry for any company/person who can take advantage of people make their living off the desperation of other.
