First I want to say hello to all users at Qatarliving.

Second I would like to know if someone could help me with the decision of going to Qatar to work and live there...or not:)...

The monthly waige that I will get is really good, but I don´t know what to expect from the country.

If someone has the kindness to chat a litle bit with me, in order to explain me what is the social situation at Qatar, I would really appreciate that.

Here is my MSN adress: sergio-teli hotmail.com

Thank you very much to everyone, and sorry for wasting your time:)

Hey man, i am with every word other members said except and sorry to say that i dont agree with zapme at all...

i fully agree that doha is not like dubai and not many places to hang out but still once you get mobilized in here and get to know poeple and friends things will be the same as any other place in the world.

Even Heaven is not a heaven without poeple.

good luck :)

Hi Sergio,

I've been in doha for 4 yrs & dude, trust me, dont even think about coming here. The place SUCKS! The weather ie humidity kills u, if not that then the traffic definitely will. The most common past time for people here is to drive around aimlessly coz they just dont where else to go. I mean i dont blame them. There are only a handful of malls & now thanx to some very intelligent minds, weekends are families only. Which translates to- unless u r a Qatari or a European if u r single, u r not welcome inside.

I could go on & on but take it from me if u have another offer, dont even think of coming to this part of the world. Good luck.

for me.... this is right place only for short term for saving some money. after 1-3 years, back to your homeland........; cannot imagine living here forever ( except for Rasgas, QP, QGas, Dolphins, QChem, and anyone whose salary for more than 30,000 QR)

Hello Sergio ... i receive your PM, and forgive me that i dont do MSN with people i dont really know.

Regarding what you asked in your PM, the social life in Doha wont be the same with in Portugal. If you are outgoing and easy to mix then you will have no problem. However be prepare to mix with many different nationalities if you want an active social life.

You cant get booze in any restaurant, you will have to go to major hotel. Alternatively you can obtain a booze license (refundable deposit QR 1000) and buy your own alcohol from the QDC (Qatar Distribution Centre) ... Then from there you can throw your own party / get together / BBQ ... (form your own social network).

Other thing to bear in mind ... if you do get here ... this website have a social group call QLSG (Qatar Living Social Group) that run by one of our member DaRuDe ... Be active posting on this forum and show that you are genuine, then you can join with DaRuDe's group. DaRuDe does regular outing like bowling, coffee evening, clubbing, and in the winter month with more outdoor activities like fishing, dhow trip and dune trip.

And if you have any more Questions do feel free to ask away. :-)

Good luck with the decision.
