Get your Qatari Smart ID (E-Gate enabled ID card)

By Qatar Living

The E-Gate system (Smart ID) allows air passengers and officials to enter and exit the country with ease. Holders of the E-Gate Card may bypass the immigration formalities at the Doha International Airport by punching their cards at the gate and pressing their index fingers on an electronic scanner.

Qatari citizens and residents, as well as GCC nationals who are interested in obtaining an E-Gate card should visit the immigration department in Madinat Khalifa.

Application Process

Follow these steps to apply:

  • Visit the office for E-Gate Cards.
  • Show your ID or GCC passport.
  • Pay appropriate fees.

Fees

  • One year: QR200
  • Two years: QR250
  • Three years: QR300

Go to the immigration department Gate 2 in Madinat Khalifa with your ID card (Residency card)

Have your photo taken at a booth, and fingerprint both your hands. (Immigration staff will assist you)

Get in line to get a token number and wait for it to be called.

When you're called, go to the counter. Tell them you did your fingerprinting on the system and request for the Smart ID for one or two or three years. You can pay for the E-Gate card/Smart ID for up to 3 years.

Immigration will then swap your Residency ID for a chipped ID card (as shown in photo). With this E-Card you should be able to skip immigration and passport control and use the e-Gate, as long as you have your exit permit.

After paying and collecting the newly chipped Qatar ID from the counter, is that all? Or do we need to activate the card?

I got my E-Gate card in Al-Khor Ministry Services last month. Saves stamps on the passport and the hassel of waiting for long time in queues, which once I had to wait for 45 minutes, wheras as now I come out of Immigration or go in during departure in less than a minute...

So now it looks they are in serious need of money, actually this smart card should be normal ID card. So all smart guys form big queue at Immigration while leaving...

Josephkkm: People like you deserve to be deprived of any sort of convenience...you're paying for not standing in a queue at immigration...if you could for a moment not be a selfish plonker, you could even look at it as the system taking away peoples employment since there would be less immigration staff needed...but no, its all about you, you and you...

Why we need to pay extra we reduce the job of the Emigration staff, so it should be issued free for all.

no sponsor letter is required and is for all residents in Qatar anyone can apply i just had mine done today

you just follow the instructions above. one update is that it is done only in gate 2 as far as i know and costs as mentioned above

You can get an ID card for your children with valid RP from any Immigration office and then swap it for the smart card or you could also just try and go to the smart ID place directly and ask if you can do it skipping the obtaining of a normal ID card will save you the trouble and money

All relevant info available here. As for children, I believe (not sure) that those with an e-gate card can get the children's passports stamped at the e-gate itself as long as they have a valid e-gate card. Hope this helps.

No traditional stamping will be there on your Passport. Immigration records will be updated automatically at your destination country. I am using egate service since 2011 and nobody stopped me entering India or other places. One should have a valid exit permit to leave Qatar, that's all...

What about traditional stamping in passport? Immigration officers in other countries especially in India, use to check the stamp for exact date of travel and other inquiries.
