The gulf times had an article a few days back that stated that the government has upped the warning on h1n1, according to them anyone visiting a medical centre, private clinic will be started on tamiflu irrespective if the patient has the virus.....tests will be done later.....this is not the right option in my opnion as in the rest of the world tamiflu is given only after u test positive for the virus.....not a good sign .....shows that the health system is being overstretched and there is a sense of panic how to contain the growing no. of cases 550 at last count.

I have a feeling that the death toll may be higher and not just one....could be wrong though....

also been informed that Hamad hospital at Al Khor has been quarantined off so that only H1N1 infected are treated there.

Guys ( and Gals ) !!

This virus is most active between the temperatures of -40 to +30 degrees centigrade.

Any temperature above 35 degrees centigrade is destroying the virus altogether.

So till the temperature remains above 35 degrees centigrade , we are safe , but as soon as the temp goes below 35 degrees centigrade, we have to be carefull.

People who got affected overseas and came to Doha obviously suffered as they caught the flu out of Qatar.

So we need to be carefull in the comming winter.

So Cheers till then !!!!

Hi, this from Gulf Times newspaper today....

350 cases test positive, reveals Supreme Council of Health

A total of 350 of the over 1,000 suspected cases have tested positive to A(H1N1) flu in Qatar, the Supreme Council of Health announced yesterday. “The number of suspected cases tested so far for the virus have reached 1,150 and over 50% of them are currently receiving treatment and are in stable condition,” public health department director Dr Mohamed al-Thani said.

Qatar announced its first swine flu cases in June after two toddlers and one teenager arriving in the country from Australia and the US were diagnosed with the virus. The virus claimed its first and only victim so far in the country on July 31.

The official said the majority of infected persons were not being hospitalised or kept in the quarantined area at the Medical City due to the increase in number of suspected cases. Only those in transit were presently being housed there, the official added.

“These patients are currently being looked after in their homes as they do not need to be in the hospital but all they need to do is to follow and comply with the treatment procedure in order to safeguard members of their family and the entire public,” he explained.

According to him, the World Health Organisations has directed all affected countries not to release statistics regarding the number of suspected cases and even the number of confirmed cases any further and that testing of suspected cases should be done only when symptoms were confirmed and serious, otherwise treatment should commence immediately.

He hinted that the council would no longer rely on information regarding suspected cases coming from the thermal cameras installed at entry points into the country as the data was not reliable.

“Reports from these cameras are not accurate and we will discontinue their use,” he said.

The official said persons with flu symptoms should contact any nearby health centre for immediate treatment, adding that family members of suspected cases will also be given treatment.

“The council will encourage any suspected case to wear mask in crowded place, schools, supermarkets and mosques to avoid the rapid spread of the virus within the community,” he added.

The number of positive cases for swine flu is increasing and so far it is reaching 200. We do not have specific figure because even WHO and CDC stopped counting because of the increasing number and most of the cases were not detected just like the common flu. It means that the figures are not accurate. What we are sure about is the one death in Qatar from a traveller who arrived in Doha with a complication of pneumonia. The concern now is the coming school opening because many people will be arriving from vacation and most of the countries around the world have confirmed cases of more than 100. The community can help by advising all those arriving to have self-quarantine in their places for at least a week and if there is any symptoms of flu, they must seek consultations immediately to our health centers. Each individual must be responsible not to transfer the virus thru frequent hand washing, limiting contacts or exposure to other people or going in crowded areas, covering nose and mouth with tissue during coughing and sneezing, seeking consultation and also self-quarantine.

Let us all help each other.
