Tooth Implants in Doha?

HM
By HM

Interestingly I couldn't find the mediforum topic on QL. So, making a seperate topic for the question.

How much does it cost for a single tooth implant? Is it painful and are there any negative consequences of this procedure?

Thanks!

Nothing is up to expectation in Doha, charge is high and services are bad. There is no service level, you can go get an implant for half the price in other countries. All these clinics are rip offs trying to pay rent and salaries from their customers pockets. No clear pricing, no service level, unprofessional attitude and facilities are poor. Let's hope all of this changes soon.

depends on the case u have to visit a dentist. if only a part of it fell off, it may only be a composite veneer not a ceramic veneer. just go to any dentist and just ask about procedure, time and cost. don't open a file (100QR) just tell the reception have a question and need just an answer.

than u decide.

For single tooth implant treatment, you will need less than thousand dollars because this treatment is very expensive. You should choose good clinic who provides proper treatment and also give all information by dentist.

Dr. Susan George is probably one of the worst doctors I've come across.

Her treatments are expensive. Registration costs Qr25, Teeth cleaning costs Qr200 (and extra Qr100 for additional sittings). Bleaching (Teeth whitening) costs Qr1000 & above.

Moreover, she isn't the friendliest of persons. Go in for consultation to her, and she treats you like a third-class patient. In other words, her attitude is like - "Take it, or get lost." Doesn't act like a professional.

She is, however, quite qualified (MDS). But, I believe qualifications aren't enough. A doctor needs to build a good rapport by enlightening the patient about the ailment and possible treatments. From my experience, she doesn't have this quality.

@ piposash, you could probably get it recemented for as low as Qr. 50-100 wherein it will fall out again in a couple of weeks, after which you'll spend Qr. 50-100 again to have it put back or you could spend around Qr. 200-250 & have it recemented with a higher quality of cement which will last...choice is yours...in keeping with the guidelines on QL,i cannot & will not give out any names of individual dentists or practices but ask around for the more well known clinics & get it done @ one of them...just remember, cheaper is never or almost always, not better...*wink*!!

@ scorpio79,while a desire for tax-free income is a primary reason for expats being here, could it not be that the hassles involved in getting reimbursed by the insurance companies don't make it worthwhile for established practices like family dental to bother with direct billing as they're probably full-up already? & that the practice generates enough income without having to resort to the mass practice that direct billing would create? now how much income is enough income you may ask? well that's a relative term & the definition of that would vary from person to person...majority of the type of clientele that family dental caters to(well-to do Qataris & mostly white expat) are away @ this time of the year,so i guess it makes most sense for the dentists to go away @ the same time as well...no sense staying in for the summer seeing a miniscule number of patients & go on vacation @ a time when the majority of the clientele are in the country right?...

i wouldn't really ask Dr. Susan George's clinic or Family Dental Clinic to consider a direct billing agreement if it will in any way affect their present level of service. Considering the hassles involved in getting reimbursed as well as other factors that u r not at liberty to mention here must mean that there is more to it than what meets the eye.

i have been to both places and needless to say, both the places were patient-friendly, professional and are honest on the work that they do.. Its a pity that the specialists at Family Dental had to go on vacation at the same time..

i would still go to my dental magician again if i had to but hope not as well.. (a visit to the dentist is not for the faint-hearted)

".. but quality of patient care & a desire for higher income are two completely independant issues right?"

true.. keep the administration and patient care as separate..

"a good practice can also be a greedy one & vice versa right?"

isnt greed aka "a desire for higher income" one of the key reasons for the existence of expats in Qatar.. Eg: u and me.. even if not u, still me..

@ scorpio, like i said, medical insurance in this country hasn't reached the professional levels it has elsewhere in the world & while i agree it's convenient for patients, you too agree that having to wait extraordinarily long to get reimbursed would factor in to signing up,like you said, taking into consideration the conditions CURRENTLY required by the insurance companies here in Qatar,it isn't worth it for successful practices to sign up seeing the hassle involved in getting reimbursed as well as other factors that i'm not @ liberty to mention here...so in lieu of the above, the only reason a good practice would take on that kind of hassle would be to generate more income right?...don't get me wrong scorpio,i'm not questioning the quality of the practices that offer direct billing but quality of patient care & a desire for higher income are two completely independant issues right?...a good practice can also be a greedy one & vice versa right?...

isnt it kind of harsh to say that "practices that aren't doing all too well or greedy practices agree to their conditions"..

yes, it is a hassle for the concerned practices. but convenient for the patients.. I am not aware of the time taken for the concerned practices to get reimbursed but they would surely taken all this into consideration before signing up for this direct billing agreement. If I had a clinic and would have to wait for a year to get reimbursed by the insurance company, i would say no to this agreement.

But there are a lot of other clinics that have direct billing agreements and some of them are good places as well.

@ scorpio, medical insurance is an infant concept in this country,as a result, the insurance companies are currently calling the shots...They have numerous conditions attached to their direct billing agreements, all obviously, favourable to them but loss making to the practice concerned...practices that aren't doing all too well or greedy practices agree to their conditions foreseeing the bulk income it would bring them, nevermind the fact that the practice would have to chase them for months, sometimes upto a year to get reimbursed...succesful,well-reputed practices don't need that kind of hassle, now do they?...hence the current lack of a direct billing agreement...hope this answers your query scorpio...

@ jshar, every individual has a different experience with one's doctors/dentists, some have good ones, others bad,it's upto the individual to find the doctor they are most comfortable with & continue with him/her...family dental clinic is the FIRST private dental polyclinic in Qatar(ministry of health clinic lisence no:1 or rather 111,since that's what they started with). The patients roster @ the clinic includes prominent members of the ruling family(including His Highness the Emir & Her Highness Sha. Moza, the late Dr. Stallard who started the practice was the personal dentist to His Highness Sh. Khalifa) as well as prominent Qataris from big local families as well as a good number of expats, the reason i mentioned this is because these are the kind of people that can afford the best treatment money can buy, dental or otherwise,if they CHOSE to go with family dental, surely it can't be too bad a practice now can it?...having a personal issue due to a bad experience with a practice is understandable, making a blanket statement based on that personal experience,on the other hand,is not...i can assure you that the number of people that have had good, personal experience with this practice FAR EXCEEDS those that have had bad ones...there is no practice anywhere on the planet where every individual would've had only good experiences, what one needs to look @ is the majority...

@ drsam, the punch technique you mentioned has a very high failure rate mate, look up the studies, you mentioned some 'well known' brands but left out the most important, noble biocare, they invented implants & first started largescale maunufacture,i'm guessing they would know a thing or two about it huh? (@ baldrick2dogs,if you're wondering mate, the ones in your mouth are noble biocare if you got it done with Dr. Jeff)

@ scorpio79,the treatment you most likely had "half done" @ family dental was a root canal,to put it very simply, this is a blind procedure, unless it's completely obvious on the x-ray,the dentist would need to start the procedure to know weather or not they would or would not be able to complete it & if a specialist(endodontist) would be required to do it & do it properly...the dentist you saw @ family dental was professional & ethical enough to inform you you that he/she would not be able to complete the procedure & a specialist's treatment would be required rather than leave the job half done & tell you it was complete & i assure you,you wouldn't know the difference,as there would be no more pain,of course it would come back in double measure somewhere down the line(in a matter of weeks/months/years, varies person to person, but come back it would, that's for sure)& again you would/could go back to family dental & he/she could tell you it got reinfected & again, you wouldn't know that it could have been avoided had the earlier treatment been done by a specialist...as for going back to family dental for the filling after the root canal,it's merely a matter of professional courtesy, practiced all over the real world,a patient is referred to a specialist for a particular procedure, the specialist completes the procedure & asks the patient to go back to the referring doctor for the completion of the treatment,in this case, both the referring doctor & the specialist were just being professional & ethical in their respective actions, something may i add which is hard to come by,especially in this neck of the woods where awareness is fairly low & laws regarding this non-existant...If you so insisted, the specialist would have completed the procedure for you,the choice was yours to make, you chose to go elsewhere & as long as you're happy with the treatment that's done, all's well...just seems a bit unfair to malign a well established, well known & well respected practice simply due to a lack of awareness of the actual facts...hopefully this explanation settles things?...

Gadarene:

Not a clue what they are, but they work fine :o)

As a kid my gran used to feed me sweets ... too many!

My teeth were rotten through, and when I broke a front tooth a couple of years back, eating an egg sandwich of all things, I decided to do something about it.

I now have 5 implants and 8 crowns and brush twice a day to keep them in good condition.

Now you mention it, I thought I'd seen Sheika Moza in there. She was leaving as I arrived, but I wasn't sure if it was her or not.

HM: Just get it done already. You will not regret it. I had a temporary bridge while waiting for the bone graft to take on the front tooth and hated it. The implant is so much better :oD

I cant say anything bad about them. but wished that they would explain things a bit more clearer.

went there to meet Dr. Fields. was told that he was on vacation. fine.. the replacement did not tell me in direct terms that she would not be able to complete the dental procedures on my tooth. we talked a lot and wht i understood was that she will do half the work and then i go with the rest of my exposed tooth to another specialist referred doctor (another appointment and chk if they are free) in another part of the country and then come back again to Family Dental Clinic to complete the procedure.. What is this?

Couldnt i go instead to the referred doctor and complete the entire procedure there?

Probably yes but i was told that "referred "gentlemen" doctors send the patients back to the referral doctor".. it does not matter that the patient has to drive around half of Qatar with an exposed tooth trying to fulfil this gentleman's agreement..

Left both the referral and the referred doctors and ended up in the hands of a dental magician.. tht is another story..

And price is good as well:

"..to place a single implant costs u 5000QR.

it includes:

1- implant placement (minor surgery)

2- crown over the implant

3- flipper = a removable little teeth u wear between the implant placement and the time the crown is put. (u don't want to keep the opening empty specially if visible)

4- suture removal if any 5 min

5- check up 10 min

6- impression for crown 30 - 45 min

7- crown placement. 10-15 min

variable depending on the case, but to give u an idea.

no bone graft/membrane case (other plan of treatment)

it's not indicated unless there is an impossibility to implant (no bone, heavy smoker, certainsystemic disease like osteoporosis+diabetis..., or periodontitis...)

the treatment of choice is implant.

same cost if 3 unit bridge or single implant

2- extractions was required

3- was bonw graft necessary? usually when treating sockets (after extraction) u have to graft bone and menbrane. those 3 factors makes it no more a minor surgery!

was i wrote about was for an implant not implantS !! lol

if there is one implant, believe me there is no pain if none of the 3 procedures above mentioned was necessary.

there is a special techniq (punch technic) that even doesn't require sutures nor flap opening.

sorry for ur bad experience, but in ur case, it was previsible and antibiotics, pain killers, anti inflammatory drugs, mouth washes and mainly mainly ice application was required.

an implant costs around 5000 QR (crown price included).

it needs 2 stages

1- to put the implant, a very simple minor dental surgery of around 25 minutes. sutures. NO PAIN. neither while nor after. no sick leave is needed.

2- after 2-4 months the placement of the final crown

u can place the crown immediately after surgery with conditions.
