Traffic Round About Rule
Hello all,
I need some help in understanding the Round About Rule. I am involved in an accident. On the round about I was in the middle lane and there was a person who was on the left lane. He took a sharp right turn and want to exit and both of our car collided. The police came he told me that it was my fault. The person on the left lane has all the right to turn. I am the one who should be careful. When I argue how it could be possible, he said that they are the one who are implementing the law and fully aware of the law. Does anyone knows what is the official rule about Round Abouts?
Brother Sherazi...ur only fault is that u r an expat and the other person and the policeman are locals. It is almost the same throughout gulf..when it comes to doing justice between expats and locals.

OK. I went to murror, the other person who was in Qatari dress also showed up. Unfortunately I am not very well in Arabic. So the officer and the other person talked for a few minutes in arabic. He then ask my side of the story and decided that it is my fault. He tells me it not where you are right now, it is when you enter in the RA and where you want to go. I can take this argument, but when I asked him how would I know how does he enter and where he want to go. He even did not give any indicator. He has no answer. But it is my fault. :(
i have seen cars are temporary parked in the right side of the round abouts. is that law?
In a roundabout a person wishing to go right should never enter in the left-most lane. Secondly, as per traffic rules a person cannot change lanes once he has entered a roundabout. So, in your accident, the fault is not yours.
However what I have noticed in Qatar, is that traffic rules and disciplined driving are not followed as diligently as in the U.A.E.
Unfortunately it is your fault. The rules here on the roundabout are:
left or inner lane: to make a U-turn, turn left or go straight
middle lane: to go straight only
right or outer lane: to go straight or make a right turn
If you are on the middle lane and wanted to make a left turn you should give way to the one on the inner lane who wants to go straight because you are on the wrong lane.
This is why the driving instructor always reminds (and this is part of driving test) be on the correct lane before approaching the roundabout.
these have been discussed also before:

My Advice is, bring cameras or always take picture on the accident scene prior leaving the area to have a better look and discussion on the scenario...
Qatar Rule is that whenever you are on the round-about, you can go right, left or straight even if you are on the left lane or right lane. The rule is always to give way for right or left turning vehicles if you are on the middle lane. (the rule sucks as it is but it is their rules and we need to abide by it).
the car in left : has the right to drive straight or left
the car in the midst he has to go straight only
the car in the right can go on the right or sraight .
draw it on a paper and u will notic that if every one follow this rule , no one will have accident on round about
If he is a local there not much point in arguing the case.
Roundabouts are really difficult to prove blame, because each one can claim that the other moved into 'his' lane.
I was rear ended on a roundabout and the other party claimed it was my fault as I had cut infront of him, I didn't but without witnesses nothing can be proved.
Was he ahead of you or behind? If you could see him it's your fault :o(
The rule is: Landcruisers go first!!!!
On a serious note; No, the left lane is for turning left, the midle for straight where you should exit to the most left or middle lane; Right lane for either turning right or straight where you should exit to the right lane.
Practically and for your own safety, refer to rule no.1
