We are relocating to Doha in about a month and are wondering what household items we should bring with us to qatar.

We would also like to know what size beds are typically provided in a furnished villa.

Are there good quality linens (like 1500TC Egyption Cotton sheets)and towels to be bought in Qatar or should we ship these items?

Any helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Bring the largest sheets you can find. The king beds here seem to vary from barely fitting my sheets to being impossibly big for the king sheets.

Bring favorite kids toys. Toys here are rubbish and pricey.

Bring a good supply of books-until you get hooked up with TLG which has a wonderful book table, you will pay a lot for reading material.

Bring good pots and pans. You can find them somewhere here, but by the time you figure out where, you will have already purchased awful ones in desperation. Plus, they will be very expensive here when you do find good ones.

Most kitchen things you will find, but not all will be up to your standards. If you use a good food processor, bring it(and the proper electric gadgets to make it work properly). A good kitchen aid mixer, too. Both things can be purchased with the proper electric cords online-or for a lot of money here. There is a store, Tavola, in a few places here with really good stuff for kitchens-again, it is a question of figuring out where it all is when you need it the most.

If you can bring/ship favorite food tidbits, might be a good idea. Its hard to find some family favorites, though after a while, you can find anything but pork products or vanilla extract here. (I'd bring vanilla extract, but that's just me).

Bring your patience. Nothing here works according to your "rhyme or reason". It takes awhile to get used to Doha's rhymes and reasons:)

Oh, and whatever you buy, remember to hold on to receipt and be aware of return policy. It is kind of horrid here, so beware. This country does not have an easy return policy.

Much of what has already been said is valuable advice, particularly duvet covers, and mattress pads. We live in an unfurnished villa and bought most of our furniture (not beds) second hand. I did ship out some our books, pictures and teenagers' "necessaries". Also I would have brought our own cutlery and good quality saucepans as these are either hard to find or very expensive! Be careful about medications if you need any as there are strict rules about what you can get here. Bring plenty so there's time to find out what they can give you here!

Good luck - it's a great place to live :)

Well first of all, some of us think that Fully Furnished means bring your clothes and a bath towel. Here it means you have all of your major items, but no dishes or pans. Small appliances ( coffee maker, microwave, fondue pot ) will need to be shipped or purchased locally. Just a reminder the electrical standard is 220-240 volts. The plug is not the same as asia or europe but the voltage is the same.

No bed linens or blankets. So if you have your own ship them. But they may not fit. Beds are european sizes, generly the Master bedroom will have a king size, 200x200cm some have queen sized, not sure of the measurements on these. Most of the other rooms will have twin sized.

Bathrooms, have bidet's and tub/shower combos, shower curtain rod, no curtain or rings.

1500 TC Bed Sheet? Almost impossible! They dont even have 500 TC in most of the supermarket chains.. Is it 1500 or 150 TC?

There was a previous post about what you dont get in Doha.. Please use the Search option as it was a very extensive list...

You get almost everything here, but chinese goods are the most available..

Clothes, Footwear, cosmetics, stationary kit, craft kit, medicines, kids toys, etc of your personal preferrence can be brought atleast until you find out "what, where how & when" of Doha...

If you are planning to ship cargo, and if you have small children, the better idea is to ship the stuff you are used to... If you are coming on your own without family, better come "empty handed" and enjoy shopping...

Hi! Hope you like the heat...very hot here now! In our villa we have 3 standard size single beds,1 standard size double bed and 2 supersize king beds! For the latter we've had problems finding duvets and covers to fit.Plenty of king size stuff but not superking size! When we did find the right size, the choice was limited to just 2 colours, beige or grey! I'm sure there's more to be found, but we've not found them yet! Perhaps someone out there can help! I don't know about your villa, but although ours is 'fully furnished' it didn't include things like cutlery,crockery,iron,kettle,toaster,m/wave,pots and pans etc.,etc.,! If we'd known that,we would have shipped our stuff out. As it was,we had to buy all over again! I hope that helps a bit.

Doha is not a desert. You get everything and anything here. There is a thrill when you come to a new place and then if by chance if something is not provided, then go about choosing yourself what you exactly want. Hope you are not a choosy character.

You would usually get almost everything here; at a price ofcourse. Unless your requirements are too specific then it may be advisable to ship those specifics. Welcome to Doha!
