Why do we have salary discriminations?

For the same job, different nationals are offered different salaries. And the difference is HUGE! When everyone pays the same amount for any given product in stores/markets (Cost of living is the same for all), why are the salaries different for Americans,Europeans,Asians and Indians?

Yeah the same experience that's brought the Amercian and the European economy on brink....

Some experience I must say..........

When you received the offer, if you knew at that time that the other nationalities take better pay than you, would you accept or reject the offer?

If accept, case closed, no need to waste more bandwidth

If reject, you still have that choice

How did you miss the sign "Discrimination Zone Ahead"...while leaving the arrival terminal...:) Rest all is making up stories.

the cost of living is tied to inflation which in turn is tied to how much of a pay rise we get each year. so when they check how much you are paid back home to offer you a similar wage the cost of living definetly impacts this.

Do you want cheese with your whine?

Americans are paid more because they will not work for less. There is nothing wrong with the system. It's called a free market. If you think you are underpaid, demand more. If your employer believes you are as important as you think you are, he'll pay up. If he disagrees, he may fire you. Your call.

Cost of living has nothing to do with any of it. Stop hiding behind your excuses and make yourself invaluable to your company. Last I checked, no one pays people to whine.

Salary discriminataion is still understandable but why do companies with all this fancy HSE policies and working smart solutions allow the organizations to be filled with family members, relatives, friends, etc. Is it because some of the guys who run this organizations are so insecure in their seats or afraid that their dirty secrets will get out

the average house price is directly connected to the cost of living i would say? my point was it is more expensive to live in uk and america than it is to live in the countrys who's nationals are being paid less.

i not getting at the average for a city or an area though , the average house price for the whole of india is what i was asking.

...you'll have to look it up - it depends of the city ( tier 1, 2, 3), Much lower in tier 3 cities.

Not sure what your point is - cost of accommodation back home never arises as a basis of negotiating a salary.

USD 500 k or GBP 325,000 In Bbay. Wanted to make another investment but the apt I really liked is GBP 1.2 million - not worth it.

http://www.indianexpress.com/news/average-cost-of-mumbai-flat-is-rs-2.6-cr/941198/

I'm currently looking at picking up property in London - strategic reasons as the yield ain't too great too.

no no, not bbay, india as a whole.

what is the average house price though? thats what was being pointed out. i can garuntee it is at least half what the uk is, even though india has had a massive 200 odd percent price hike in property since 2000. if you were to point out certain locations in uk, you wouldnt get a parking space for that lol

You French so to attract you, I would to look at the high salary scale.....unfortunately for Asians, most do not negotiate well and do not know the market value in Qatar. Also their salary back home would be lower. So they accept an offer, which may have been attractive at that time - unfortunately it is too late then.

.....I believe If one gives Value to my Company and he would get a decent pay package.

You accepted the offer now don't complain. Blame it down to poor negotiations, I didn't.

What's this talk about house prices - the average American house price is USD 200k. You'll just get a small 2BHK in a distant suburb in Bbay for that. Ridiculous that it is the justification for a higher salary

Agree with Calpoly. In addition, if the Americans in Qatar are paid the same as Indians in Qatar, the Americans simply would not come to Qatar, because the are paid better at America than Indians in Qatar. The difference in pay is not in Qatar, the difference in pay is in homelands.

If cost of American degree matters then why Indians in USA are earning more than others and secondly you perhaps have illusion about real estate prices in India, for your knowledge they are much more costlier than prices in Middle East or North America

Simple answer is this. My University degree in the US cost me almost 200,000$ to obtain, while in India, I am pretty sure it doesn't even come close to this amount. Second, if an American receives a salary same as an Indian or similar nationality, I am sure he can’t afford to buy a small one bedroom flat to live in, where in India, he will probably buy a castle for the same money. I don’t even want to talk about the experience and knowledge Americans and Europeans bring with them to Qatar most of the times. Simple enough...

When one goes for the interview, if you are doing so at the right time, in a right company and with the right people, I trust one does not have to end up with a sad ordeal !

To the OP: It's not discrimination. It's called a free market, and people are paid according to the contract they agreed. If you don't think the salary is what you are worth, then don't sign the contract.

That fact that you (and some others) cannot comprehend this is probably a big reason why you are not being paid as well as you think you deserve, and why Americans are being paid so much better.

my opinion is that they are traied differently, some better trained some differet qaulifications. also i feel something that has to be taken into account is how far that money goes back in the home country. average house price in uk say ,,,,, £150000 average house price in phillipenes ,,,, £20000. i think it is done fairly when you look at it in that respect . but your right ,cost of living is the same for everyone when they are in qatar.

Good Question, no answer...

This is the way of life here, take it or leave it.
