I saw someone mentioning mbps and Mbps. Actually both are same and used as an abreviation for megabits per second. Difference is when you use MBps which is the abbreviation for megabytes per second (8 bits = 1 byte).
right now i tested my i-net speed and results are :
Down speed 24.07 Mb/s
Upload 7,72Mb/s
Very soon i have to go back to Qatar and it will be very hard to work again with slow and unstable Q-tel internet. It is like change Mercedes to Daihatsu.
You can take a look at speedtest[dot]net global results and u will see that Qatar is only at ~ 80th place in world by internet quality.
I cant even make video chat with my wife, because video interrupts very often.
Dudes.....first of all there would hardly be any company in Qatar who'd need a 200Mbps line to Qtel for its internet needs. What you guys are probably talking about is your "LAN" link speed which has nothing to do with your internet "downlink/uplink" speed. If any of you guys are IT Techs, you'd know what I am talking about. Someone said his office has a 100Mbps internet link is hard to believe. Public Works Authority (ASHGHAL) has a 32Mbps Internet link from Qtel, serving 1500 internet users. Now tell me where does this argument stand? Anybody?
I would like to know which country you claim provides 200mbps internet speed. If it does this is a theoretical speed based on the maximum bandwidth. However there is no advantage to having the ability to download at 200mbps if the server you are connected to only downloads at 8mbps. All modern telecommunication infrastructures have the bandwidth throttled down for this reason. There is expansion (future-proofing) built into most networks to allow for technological advances. The only instance I know of where 100mbps or 200mbps is available on a single line is those connected to buildings with multiple tenants, i.e. apartment blocks. The total available bandwidth is then split between the occupants. Again theorectically it is possible to attain high download speeds during periods of limited use. Speeds of 50mbps+ can be realised but as stated before it is dependant on the protocols at the other end of the connection(server).
One further thing to consider before you berate the 'shitty' internet speeds here in Qatar is this. Qatar has a population of less than 2 million, a large percentage of which will not have a direct(in their place of residence) connection. The UK for example has 46 million internet users (Sept 2009), over 75% of the total population.
When you calculate total population versus total number of users versus cost, if you have any sense, you may appreciate the deal you are getting is pretty good.
i suggest you consult a psychiatrist......because you should cope and manage with the situation instead of pointing fingers on the country's service provider's service.......if you are happy with the speen in your country u are welcome to leave .......and BTW can you tell me how much salary your country paying to you is it double the salary which you are earning in qatar......so just keep quite and thanks god and goodness.
Sounds like you came to this country for INTENET ALONE.The FACT is that you have come here just because of the PAY PACKAGE you are offered , which is much bigger than you get in your own country and this is true with 99.99999999999% of people. I wish you better avail the facility that is avalable here or else get back to where you feel like . There is no body stopping you. Sorry i have to be honest reading such people.
hey, who told there is no internet with 100mb/s ? now I'm getting the same speed in my office.. and it's also provided by Q-tel. you just enquire to any Qtel shop and ask for high speed internet. i dont know how much does it cost... but it's not at all costly..
Maybe this guy live in NASA! wherein he can get a faster connection.. hmmmmmm try to get a direct satellite and connect it to your computer.... Problem solve!!!
Q Tel was not aware that you were relocating from your country. They are trying to upgrade the system for you now. If you can not wait you can relocate and come back when the system is ready.

What do you want? You can get free internet, courtesy of your neighbor.
If you will get 100mbps, you will ask 200. So its better you should stick to 2mbps, if you cant pay more for the better speed. Also stop shouting..

Qtel is anyway not providing a free service.
If you are not interested you can as well leave the place and find better places where they offer you what you need
I dont feel...its that much "SHITTY" as u r complaining...

If u can't adjust here, go back to ur country then..If u think ur country is much capable in providing u all kind of amenities, u r free to leave...
this place has a typical mindset and i strongly believe that 5 years down the line internet would become dirt cheap and faster as well.
The Highest internet speed is 8mbps
and it's not shitty enough compared to other countries around here.
also check your internet connection and what are you using, wireless router? or direct DSL?
You are not important enough.
