Like mentioned a few times in other replies, it is because you are living in the city. I have seen the Milky Way so proliferous and bright on a moonless night in the desert in Saudi, that you could almost navigate by it...almost :)

i noticed that also. Perhaps its because of sandstorm or the city is too bright for the stars to be visible. What do you think?
