Wise people - I need your advise

I am planning to move to Qatar in February ... I would need your honest suggestions in helping me negotiate on my package and hope for a good life in Qatar. My office is located in Grand Hamad Street ...

1. How much would a really good 1 bed room flat or a studio flat within a radius of 10-20 km from the office would cost me ??? ( I would greatly appreciate if somebody tells me the exact price area by area, any contacts would be very helpful)
2. Whats the difference(cost & quality) in a compounded or outside a compound ???
3. How much will the advances for the flat and furniture costs come to ???(approx.)
4. How much time does it take to get a flat in the current situation???
5. How many attempts does it usuall take to get a driving license ???
6. I was in Muscat earlier, so I am aware of the weather, but the beaches, snorkelling and other adventure sports in Muscat are wonderful and the people are very friendly. How can we compare Qatar with Oman in this respect ???
7. How much would the monthly house( groceries, electricity, water etc) expenses come for a couple ???
8. Is Cricket played in Qatar extensively ???

This is my honest plea for all the wise people to help me negotiate my package based on your inputs ... Please spare some time for this ...

Thank you very much

Actually I think you will find LOADS of stuff on QatarLiving related to your questions, especially in this particular forum 'cost of living'. Maybe flip through the threads and have a read :D

Also, we have a Qatari on QL (amnesia) who started a website about Life in Qatar (think it even has price of groceries!) Maybe take a look at thas as well?

Good luck

I have checked a few ads in the classifieds ... seems like the minimum shelling price starts from 6000 for a good 1 bedroom flat ... Is Qatar a safe and good place ??? In respect to security, health, entertainment and social life ???

why don't you check the classified section of qatar living and www.gulf-times.com to check the rent of flats in qatar. remember high rent means every thing is costly.

all the best

I haven't quit any job. I am an independent consultant and tired of moving here and there in India for projects. But yes, my primary motive behind taking up a job in Qatar is money. But also, it isn't only money. I would consider the option only if the quality of life I can have is better than what I am having now. Since I'm married, I just didnt want to move anymore for a while. I need a safe home, hassle free job and weekends to relax. This is for a while. After maybe a couple of years, I would go on with my usual way of being independent professionally.

I hope you got my point. If you are in Qatar, and since you know my motive and situation, and if you have any suggestions(need not be wise :-):-):-)), please offer them ... nothing wrong in pondering over a thought ...
