I'm about to move to Doha in next few week from UK for a new job, was wondering if there was anyone I could message for advice, on preparation and when first get there, culture etc?
Got loads wanna ask but don't wanna keep doing new forums for advice all time,
I will definetly count u ,once i move there or anything i want to know i will contact u ..how long u been in Qatar?how do u find this place..i know it is a quite city not like abudhabi..
... I lived with my family in Abu Dhabi for 4 years before coming here. You will find it a lot different, as in more quiet and with more 'restrictions', but nothing you won't get used to. As for coffee mornings - plenty of those around, have a look at my group 'Mums in Doha' here on QL and join. We do coffee mornings and I have started organizing events for mums and their kids to get together and to get to know each other while kids play.
As for Villas, at the moment there is a LOT on offer and the prices are at their lowest so far. You can get (in Abu Hamour, the area I live in) a 5-bedroom Villa, fully furnished, full facilities (Gym, Pool, Playground, security) in a Compound for QR 13,000 a month - this is just an example.
If there is anything else you would like to know feel free to PM me and I will be happy to answer what I know.

On the whole, it's been a good experience so far. Unfortunately though I tore my cruciate ligament playing my first match for a team out here, and because of the length of time it took to get my visas etc it took till January to diagnose, so my poor knee is not in a good way at the moment! Without sport, my life is severely lacking!
I've managed to keep a bit of cycling up, the cycling scene here is developing rapidly, there's quite a bit going on.
One of the main problems is that in the summer months, exercise is pretty much restricted to indoors!
Anything you want to know, feel free to ask or drop me a PM for more details.
I've been here since August but up in Al Khor. I see you're a personal trainer mdayr - is that what you're looking to do out here? What sports are you in to?
can be pretty enjoyable, if a bit overpriced! and you'll find plenty of other folks from the UK in Doha. the Irish Harp at the Sheraton is always full of Brits and other Western expats on weekends.
Qatar's winter months are brimming with unmissable experiences, from the AFC Asian Cup 2023 to the World Aquatics Championships Doha 2024 and a variety of outdoor adventures and cultural delights.
