Another Newbie
Hi there,
I'm another newbie to the site making preparations for a move to Qatar in July. I've been getting all sorts of "advice" from various people about what I should and shouldn't take into the country with me such as DVD's, Videos etc. Some of it quite logical, and other bits of it seem somewhat dubious.
Can somebody give me a brief summary of what is Ok to bring in please?
I'm specifically thinking about, laptops, MP3 players, portable hard drives, pen drives etc.
And another question: Is Skype blocked in Qatar?
One more thing about "advice". This is a very small place and I am sure MUST be the capital city of urban myths in the world! If it was not for this website I would never have left the house. Thanks QL friends
I don't know what the official line on DVDs etc is but I can tell you my experience in October last year. We shipped all our stuff from the UK. When it arrived at this end we were contacted by a local handler who organised it to go through customs and did all the paperwork and delivered it to our house. When it arrived the box containing all of our DVDs, videos CD roms were missing. The handler said that they had been confiscated but would be viewed and released back to us. He gave us a number to contact and we called, they said no problem come and collect. My husband went to this place that had loads of tv screens, dvd players etc to view them and collected them after they had checked them. Apart from the hassle, it didn't cost anything and we got them all back in the end. They didn't touch the PC, printer, scanner or any of our electrical items (they arrived with the rest of the stuff) but we did have to pay a charge, it can't have been very much or I would remember how much it was. I hope this helps!
I thought that would be the case, but I was warned that taking digital/electronic material in might cause delays on entry while it was checked. Glad to hear Skype isn't blocked that should keep the phone bill down.
U can bring any items u want to Qatar and Skype is not blocked. Only websites containing erotic, adult links are blocked.
