Beware the vulture in Yard sales

Hi All
I recently had a yard sale because we are leaving Qatar. The experience was good apart from one person who eventually became a nuisance.

He is an old Asian guy and comes with several lovely young ladies. At first it wasn't too bad putting up with his ridiculous offers, but eventually he started to pass himself off to other visitors as if he was working for us, generally getting in the way, being very nosy in parts of the home that was out of bounds. In particular going in to a locked room and going through my cupboards, the contents of which were definitely not for sale. He even let one of my cats out of a locked room that we put them in to keep them away from everyone and not to escape the house. This to top it up with his BS stories about how his daughter was so poor she need clothes and yet he had a brand new GMC outside for the stuff he was buying and also he will turn up at least an hour early before your designated opening time and knocking on the door.

We got him out eventually, but he decided to hang around for two hours outside like a vulture. He has no need for the stuff he is a reseller, which is why he was asking effectively scrap value. So you can guess he will no doubt flog it high to some unsuspecting soul. We sold our best stuff to people who obviously wanted and needed it.

So if you decide to advertise a yard sale, keep him at arm’s length to make your experience more pleasant.

Regards

I also had a Pakistani man this past week want everything for nothing and was picking things up that were marked not for sale. He has called me 1 hr. before the sales and said he was outside, and I politely said I am not ready for the sale yet. He also called me after the sale and asked to buy the remainder of my things at a good price. This reselling must be catching on in Doha?

to identify the person quite simple- observe the people coming in to your home / yard sale.

look for old guy who at first seems pleasant then starts trying to buy your whole bedroom without seeing it. He actually called me after I posted the items for sale to offer to buy the whole bedroom without seeing it, i could barely understand him,I thought he was stoned !.

anyway as I said in the topic above he is an asian guy with several young lovely ladies with him ( posssibly fillapina or indonesion ). you will soon spot him!
