Bringing our dog

We are considering moving to Qatar but want to bring our 6 year Lab - he is very house trained and is use to the heat.  Any suggestions - pros or cons.  Leaving him at home is not really an option.

We moved out here with our son, then 5 months old, and our dog, Sheltie. Our dog is really small even for his breed (about 10lbs) so he can just run around the house.

When we were looking for a placed to live, I was determined to get a place with an enclosed back yard with some grass. I live in Royal Garden on the D-ring road and it's plenty big for my dog and it's big enough for a medium size dog as well. There's also a lab and a Saluki in our neighborhood but unfortunately, they never really socialized with other dogs so they don't know how to play!

I have also seen our neighborhood Saluk walked by a Filipino man who I know is not the owner. He must be the dog-walker.

I think the areas are safe enouhgh that you can walk your dog outside the gated compound area. And with a dog like a lab, most people will steer clear!

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. I'm so glad I brought my dog out here and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Al wakra is pretty horrid there i hate it too many idiots driving up and down the beach real fast on quad bikes and land cruisers!! We take the boys to Fukarit or round the back of losail race circuit and 42 mile beach! 42 mile and fukharit are the best as no cars can drive along and the boys can run off the leads for miles without me having to worry! its a great place to take them!! The kennels is pampered pets up on the north road its amazing there they even get baths before they come home! The vet is by barbie salon up my dagoc we go to its amazing!!! let me know if you need directions and i will get them off my hubby as i not too good at directions!!

I presume you take your border collie to AL Wakra? My husband and I tried going out there but couldn't figure out what part of Al Wakra is "dog friendly".

And which kennel/vet do you use?

we brought our border collie out here and he loves nothing more than spending the weekend at the beach hes in heaven! Its hard finding somewhere to walk them on a daily basis i have to drive my boys to a decent enought sized space to walk them! We also so far have collected another dog to our family! be warned there are lots of stray dogs around and if your anything like us you will end up with more dogs! But it worth it, the kennels where they board they love like crazy they get so excited when they get there, and the vet we use out here is way better than the vet we used in the uk! Good luck! But keep your dog on a leash if he tend to run off in public places as a lot of dogs out here do go missing.

About 2 yrs ago there were 2 stray dogs that were shot outside our house by ploicemen after repeated calls to the police station from people in our neighbourhood addressing their complaints, my family included, and let me say that day was truly a joyous day. So what's the moral of this story? Dog owners BEWARE of letting your dogs go astray or else suffer the consequences.

We have a large breed dog, a indoor cat and a kiddo and I am curious about compounds that have larger yards. Any suggestions?

Just bring him with you - lots of us have......there are more and more people moving to Qatar and bringing their pets with them.

There are now boarding facilities, good veterinary practices, reasonable (although not extensive) pet supplies and so on.

The downsides are areas for walking etc.... but we manage!!
