converting uk driving license to Qatari...
By hummer_fan •
Hi all,
I will be soon moving to Qatar. I have a full UK driving license and would like to know if this can be converted to the Qatari one. I have checked the old forums and visited some other pages over the Internet however there seems to be mixed opinion on this.
Could someone please help we with the latest rules/regulations about this...
Cheers
Thanks very much for your extremely helpful and quick responses... Cheers
Its a simple process. On a normal UK license you can drive for a week only. If you have International License ( I guess AA or RAC issues one) you can drive for 6 months. If you are planning to drive for 1st month(assuming no International License), while your RP is getting sorted, get the Temp license( as explained by "Redtreble" and then change it over to permanent. ( that means 2 trips to the office)I had International license, I waited for mt RP, go to License office, you need 2 photos (if you wear glasses, the photo should be with glasses). Get one of the helper outside office they will fill the form in Arabic, Photocopy your UK License and RP, and will take you to Eye test which lasts 30 seconds, then to payment counter, Pay QAR250 fee for the license, in 2 minutes your permanent license is ready.TIP : Do negotiate the price with the "helper" before you start the process. Yes and do bargain. If you need any help or question PM me.Good Luck.
Yes, it can be converted because clearly a UK Driving Licence, gained in a country with such a low standard of driving isn't good enough for the roads of Qatar. You simply get a temporary Qatari Licence before you get your RP. All you need to do is pass an eye test. And then once you get your RP, you exchange your temporary licence for a permanent one.No driving test required.
Go for eye test - simples
bring your international license with you too
