Hi Guys,
though greenlight is blinking before it shows yellow and turns red, we can not exactly estimate how long it will stay blink. If there's a countdown timer on how many seconds left before red signal, we can avoid sudden break and the following accidents at intersection. How do you think?
of course.... its a good point. the same timer is using in my country as well. rather than crossing the signal in speed or making ur self confused either to cross or not, its better to have count down timers.
It is a good suggestion. I have seen such timers in remote towns in India. Then why it cannot be implemented in Doha ?... There may be errant drivers, who ignore such timers. It may not reduce the accidents , True.. But it will help the responsible drivers when to stop, instead of running the signal and pay QR 6000 fine
These days the Traffic department is committing day light robbery on most of us.
There have been numerous cases of signals not working properly.
But as far as these signals are bringing in the money to the Traffic Department, who is going to listen to us?
They will make a big grand show about having revoked 1 case while ensuring that hundreds of others are made to pay for it.
With the spiraling rents, increasing cost of food stuff & now the faltering signals, one shudders to think of what new surprise the Authorities have in store for us!!!
Most traffic lights are now controlled by something called a PLC (Programmable Logic Controller),think of this as an industrial type computer, this device has hundreds of these solid state (electronic) timers built into it.
If you see the square(or rectangular ) marks on the ground just before the white line (WHERE YOUR CAR STOPS AT), inside these little squares are small wires which form a LOOP of wire, when our car travels over these loops, the magnetic field on our car causes a current to flow in the loop of wire, thus triggering one of thos little timers.
The flashing green light is letting you know that the light will soon change. That in turn means if you are pretty far back from the light you should be slowing down and preparing to stop.
If you are close to the signal then you should proceed through the light safely.
I timer will only make people race to the light thinking they can beat the clock which unfortunately is what almost everyone wants to do.
Just use common sense and be safe, the life you save may be mine.

Countdown signal is an absolute must.

Be a Defensive Driver all the time...its the safest way
a very good explanation from Robh...thanks
but many signals lights dont blink much now. Straight green- amber-red.(eg:- the one at crazy signal ).So be very very careful when taking chances
Doesnt really matter to good drivers. There are people who would also violate the timers. So its us to be attentive while driving .
Good Question Avnis,

:)
You are correct and most drivers wish that...let's expect it from the concerned dept...
perfect.. but let them decide how the roads are gonna go first LOL.. one day its a roundabout the other its a traffic light..
