When you say "supermarket" most of us Filipinos would think its huge and almost a one stop shop like the Carrefour here in Doha. When I first came here my roommate asked me to buy a kilo of lemon in a "supermarket" in front of our house but I haven't notice any big store 'til I saw the sign "Al Farath Supermarket" in a 3x3m shop along the corner.Enlighten us plz because Kabayan supermarket in Souq is like a Grocery to us back home.Najma is too crowded,is it going to be like the same small groceries found everywhere with Filipino name & items?

if it's gonna be like sm, henry sy likes to set up shop (the newer major malls at least) in areas that are originally not in the center of the city, but not too far though, because land is cheap and there is a lot of space. the rest of the population will just have to commute there, so much so that public transportation will just have to be made available because of the demand. think sm north edsa.

if it's in the city, you'll just have to set up a multi-storey parking facility ala-sm city carpark or at the ends of the mall building like the one in megamall, shangrila, & moa. if you're building it near city centre, i hope we can have elevated walkways like the ones in ayala, and more recently, cubao and the sm north/trinoma area to link multiple commercial, residential and business establishments and make everywhere accessible by foot.

hehehe! taas mangarap :)

at the very least, do try to look up on the design of the landmark trinoma supermarket. it's my favorite place to buy groceries in the philippines because i like the layout and the design of the place. i think it won design awards a couple of years back.

The one and only consideration in trying to put up a business to capture a certain market is the accessibility for transportation, thereby giving the location aspect of the business so much importance. Secondary to this is the number of people traversing the location. Therefore, it is but wise to establish the business in SOUQ area only where Karwa Bus Terminal is also located. Filipinos all over Qatar particularly those far from Doha would love to have a one-stop shop in SOUQ market. Nakakapagod kasi ang palipat-lipat pag naka-bus ka lang kasi hindi naman lahat ng Pilipino sa Qatar ay mayroong sariling sasakyan. Pag sa ibang lugar pupuwesto, sasadyain pa.

the main consideration is ample car parking and at least, near a main road where the bus has a route. Souq Asiri is nice but already very crowded and a lot of competition already. If anyone can put-up a SM or Robinson's here in Doha, for sure it will be a welcome to all Filipinos!

to add more supermarkets to cater Filipinos (only?). However, considering Doha is beginning to implement her facelifts, most of these store you found in Souq (Asiri)now, I don't think it will still be there in the near future. As you have read from the newspapers, the whole area of Musherib and neighboring zones will be allocated to this Heart of Doha project: http://www.thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=July2009&file=Local_News2009072315344.xml

Why not look for other suitable locations away from these upcoming projects of Doha? Haven't you noticed? Residential houses are slowly being re-located on the outskirts of Doha, far from the city?
