Hi all,

I am IT professional from Singapore with about 8 years of experience. I am getting an opportunity in Doha with an IT consulting firm. This is a permanent position. Ok...this is what I am getting....

- Monthly package is 24000 QR + 2000 QR Housing allowance  X 13 months

- Free Education for kids

- Free Medical insurance for family

- No transport allowance

- USD 3000 as relocation allowance

- 24 days annual leave

- Free return tickets annually

Have heard and read here about the high rental rates in Qatar. We are family of four..(two kids aged 6 and 1). We are very family oriented and simple with expenses.Would we able to live comfortably and save something....? Your invaluable advice would be appreciated.

md haris - best is to get them to provide accomodation for ya then ya wont have to go thru the exorbitant increase in rentals when the contract ends etc etc - lesser hassle that way , in the 3 yrs i got here due to no company accomodation i have forked out more than QR100K fr my pocket , i dont see why one has to go thru that , it should come fr yr package not yr pocket so dont make the same mistake i made and gl in yr negotiations btw am fr malaysia

life's too short so make the most of it, you only live but once.......

thanks annabelle...I am still in discussion with them. They had told me that they will increase the housing allowance to 4000 QR...but going from what ppl have said here...I think that is peanuts. I understand that the best is that they provide you with accomodation, which saves all the hassle....hence, will try to ask them for that.....thanks once again....

My employer provides housing.  The co. pays 7000 per month for employees' villas across street, rented three years ago; 9000 per month for ours and others, rented two years ago; 15000 for same villas, but for those who came in six months ago.  Does that give you an idea of housing?  These are simple and small, albeit nice, one story villas NOT in a compound with a courtyard the size of a double garage.  The company looked into a small compound for us - miserable small, dark villas with only one main family room, three small bedrooms, tiny kitchen and dining nook - 16000 per month.  When they acted interested, rent was raised, so they backed out.  Do NOT, under any circumstance, come to this country unless you have housing provided.

Thanks all...for your responses. Ok...I am only looking for a 2 bedroom apartment...can I get one for QR 7000 - 8000?? If I can, I will have to top up another 6000 QR from my salary, which leaves me with 18000 QR. If I set aside another 5000 QR for household expenses and transport expenses (is this reasonable enough), I would still able to save about 13000 QR. Would this make sense. I need your advice again ppl......

"Make a difference or make way"

Ask them to make ur rental allowance between 8000-10000 Riyal. You can only get a single room without an attached bathroom for that amount.

2,000QR rental? u sure?

you could share a room for that maybe!

3 bedroom apparments - semi-furnished don't come for much less than 10,000QR per month.
