Doha Airport Immigration Lineup!!!!!!!!!!!!

qwertyatoz
By qwertyatoz

Came to Doha two days ago and must have waited nearly an hour to get through the Immigration lineup at the airport. Why don't they have more staff? Why don't they have a more efficient system? The worst I've seen anywhere.

What is an electronic residency card. I will be working as a teacher in Doha, Qatar (coming from the United States). Where and how do I obtain one?

Thanks for your assistance.

since we arrived in Qatar in 1982.

Those with long memories will remember the concrete box with a half covered window at each end where passports went in and out. It wasn't unusual for inbound passengers to wait a couple of hours.

Just to keep us on our toes the passports didn't come out in the same order as they went in. You had to check that you had received the correct passport.

It wasn't unusual to find passengers desperately checking passports in the baggage collection area looking for their own (given mistakenly to someone else)

You get fast track if business...

They always forget to give it to you though.

You have to ask for it. Or just tell the guy your business class...

Business class travellers go through the GCC gate with priority, rather than lining up with the economy folk.

business class flyers dont get special treatment in the immigration

The queues at the immigration are horrible indeed. This after a 20 minute bus ride from the other side of the airport....

I do have an eGate pass but it does not work either. Then I have to go to the departurer building or is it the arrival building around the corner.... I gave up.

As recently announce by Qatar Airways, 12 new destinations will be added so the situation will get worse.

I checked the website of the new airport but no recent update on the opening date.

I guess it will open ...... anytime soon, right ?

Doha is not the worst, definitely. Try going to Riyadh or Jeddah for that matter. However, if we compare it with Dubai, it is a different story.

People with high aspirations, usually benchmark themselves against better places and try to get there.

Others, may settle to "We are not the worst, did you try Karatchi or Launda's airport?! We are heaven compared to them!!!"

It depends on which group you like to belong to?!

Yup - we landed recently and you could not even see any proper line definition there were that many people. We had our son in our arms and had to hold him for over an hour whilst waiting to go through - we asked the captain if one of us could go through early (they usually do let people with children) - nope, we then asked if there was somewhere for me to sit with the baby whilst waiting to go through - nope. All in all utterly unhelpful welcome to Doha, embarrasing I should say for a country that is trying to encourage tourists

By fubar• 21 Nov 2011 09:21

Exactly - why improve on a crappy service if it isn't the worst in the entire world. What a great attitude for 'the richest country in the world'.

Probably this is just a way for the airport authorities to force people into shelling out a fortune for an egate card, and to remind those who can't afford it that they really aren't welcome here.

But the salary will be less or taxes maybe higher if we leave Qatar :(

My job entails a lot of international travel and I will tell you for a fact that there are far more countries in the world with worse scenarios. One case is Washington Dulles at 3pm, until about 6pm is a nightmare and the immigration officers don't give a rats arse when they see middle eastern looking crowd queuing up, they take their own sweet time :-(

thank god for the e-gate card now

By timebandit• 21 Nov 2011 08:23

It's not the shortage of staff that's the problem. It's getting the ones who are there to get off their phones that's the problem. I hate it when they can't be civil and just sit there yabering on with their phone on hands free.

Ahhhhh.... I feel better now I have had a mini rant this morning ;)

Firstly, anybody that thinks Doha is bad can't have travelled very much. It's nothing compared to places like Miami, Newark, JFK or Trinidad. I've often waited three hours at imigration in those airports.

Secondly, get yourself a new electronic residency card and you'll breeze straight through.

Qatari55 Doha is by far and away the WORST airport I've visited, multiple flights or not, the waiting times are pathetic, ususally with only half the stations manned, if you are lucky. Been to Aussie and Heathrow many times and never had the waiting times even remotely close to the Dopy Doha Airport!

the Worst!!

Seems u never been to other airports!!

Try to visit London-Heathrow or Australia.

Dude, it is normal when the airport receives multiple flights.

By Intelligent• 21 Nov 2011 06:55

Yeah if there are multiple flights then definitely there are queues. I believe this issue will be addressed in the New Doha International Airport. So till then keep your finger crossed and hope for the best.
