Hi all

Is it possible to drive a car in Doha with Export Plates since I’m planning to ship my car from Abu Dhabi to Doha, and if so is possible for how long, and what are the processes?

Thanks

One of my friends had a year old car; he managed to ship across for under QR3000; so yes there are ways. He also drove here for more than a week till his insurance was valid. I think it was a 30-day insurance.

Apologies though as I do not know more details.

How did you do that?

but jaffar what if doha police caught you, will they not verify your export validity? are you not risking driving a blue number all day to be caught any moment?

i decided not to ship my car from auh to doh as i found the procedure very costly and lengthy.

2 main negative factors:

u will pay 5% customs duty on the car to qatar customs, so the higher the car value, the higher the customs duty.

second bigger obstacle, u cannot simply drive the car from auh to doh, cos u have to cross saudi in between, and in order to cross saudi u shud have a saudi transit visa, which is not so easy to get. So the option u r left with is give the car to shippers who will charge around 4000-6000 for the shipment. I wud rather buy a used car in doha than do all this trouble, plus export charges in auh are about 700 dirhams including insurance for 4 days.

The insurance is valid only for 4 days, so if you drive beyond 4 days u r taking a risk.

(in dubai export charges only 300 and insurance valid for 15 days)
