DRIVING ON FAST LANE - A SIN ?

Few days ago I was driving between Mall R/A and Hilal R/A.
I took the fast lane to take left from Hilal R/A and I was on maximum allowed speed limit. When I was nearing the R/A suddenly there was a Qatari bihind me and started honking and shooting lights. I shown him the left indicator to tell him that I am going to take left from the R/A. He did some more honking and got on the second lane beside me, yelled something and drove away.
What is wrong with these people?

There are problem when they honk or flash light from behind . You don't do the lane change immediately with that intidimation because there may be possibility of accident with the car in your right lane . Move to the right lane when it is safe to do so. Don't bother what the guy is doing from behind. It happended with me few times in Doha . Sometime they are so arrogant that they will not change the lane and go past you . My dear friend, don't get upset . Do defensive driving and save yourself ! If you want to stay in the Middle East you have to live up with it . I involved with many such incidents with local national in many ME countries , but I had never won against them . Law will go in favour of Local national.

Buy a bigger car and drive with pride. Stop driving like a private driver. It is funny but honestly speaking a colleague of mine (keralite Indian) told me the only reason he is not buying a Land cruiser or Petrol he will look like a family driver.

It's not a SIN, I do drive in fast lane, some people are crazy they dont follow traffic rules, if they are doing anything wrong, shout them "MUQ MAAFI", he will keep quite, no need to afraid whether he is QATARI or not, there is no rule in Qatar that Qatari can voilate traffic rules. "My Friend" be strong enough to fight if any one do wrong.

Even when you're getting out the way they become impatient and start honking. Guy did that behind me in his Range Rover waering the national dress. I just honk back and extend a couple of fingers to the tosser.

I don't know if i would call it a Sin but i was 'advised' by fellow expats that expats should ideally drive in the middle lane. Fast lane, they pointed out, is usually for the more impatient and hostile drivers, whatever their nationality.

Also these drivers refer to the speed limit as more of a guideline rather than a rule. And they can only show sheer intolerance to people such as yourself who think its the latter.

My advise is that if it bothers you - avoid the fast lane. Otherwise just stick to the fast lane and simply ignore the other driver.

Good question, how you know he was a Qatari....

Secondly, you said you changed the lane to extreme left to take third exit @ roundabout but did you change the lane before 300mtr of the roundabout and you did not see any car behind you or there was no car behind you. Just wanted to built a scence to understand the reason why someone should get so upset etc.

take it easy

You are true.. But if you are an exaptriate - non arab citizen- these peoples can't allow their pride to be in behind of you. These bloodies need to be front allways everywhere.. But still some good citizens are here..

Sounds like you were hogging the outside lane.

If he had chance to go around the inside of you, then you should have equally had the chance to pull over out of the way.
