Driving in Qatar

CHOCOLATEORANGE
By CHOCOLATEORANGE

Apologies if this has been done, but I looked at the thread and couldn't find what I am looking for.

I am UK citizen moving out in a week. I want to drive in Qatar. Can someone give me the basics on being able to do this? Is it worth getting an IDP? What will I have to do to drive in the short and long term?

Thanks in advance,

CO

in this case, rest assured. QF does NOT house its staff in indecent places. However, you can start a forum topic about your question. somebody would know the area closely to reply accurately

get some energizer batteries :)

Bin Mahmoud is a centrally located area with variety of levels. Do not know exactly about the location you mentioned. Better check the building yourself and notice the level of cleanliness and the neighborhood. Also check for the residents

Please beware of the round abouts in Qatar. Be defensive while getting in, whilst in and exiting a round about in Qatar. Rest all as they have mentioned here - You can get an immediate temporary licence which will be valid thru the visa validity period.

well...all what they adviced you is right but they forgot to tell you to be ready facing a very strange drivers in doha! people drives as they fly! so it would be better for you to take very good care when you start driving here. i know this is not what u have asked but just FYI

I dont live with example..Reather I prefer to be an example!

You can get a temporary license by going to the traffic department with your visa, your passport, a photo and your original license. You'll have to undergo an eye test, pay QR180 (or QR250 - can't remember!) using a credit card (no cash accepted) and you walk out of there with your temporary license.

After you get your RP, you go back with your temporary license and your new ID card and get your permanent license immediately (after paying the fee, of course).

Having a UK and West European License , you can get it changed to a Qatar Drivers License by just going through an Eye Test and Pay the fee. This you can do after you have got your RP
