Exporting Car from GCC to Qatar - Worth it..?

Hi Guys and Gals,

I'm looking for some advice.  I have a Mitsubishi Pajero 2007 that I bought in Saudi that I am considering exporting it to Qatar when I move there next month. I have some questions surrounding this..?

1) Is there anyone who can advice me on the process of registering the car in Qatar

2) Is it worth it financially..? i.e. will I have to pay any export/import fees as its coming from Saudi..?

3) If i decide to sell it before I leave, what is the car pricing like in comparison between Qatar and Saudi (mine cost 106K SAR 3.6V6 GLS) would probably upgrade to a Range Rover/Land Cruiser and advice on pricing.

Look forward to any advice that you have to offer.

Cheers

I exported my Honda Accord 2006 from Saudi to Qatar. I sent it by ship, to avoid bureaucratic hassles. I paid about QR3600 customs duty in Doha. Registration in Qatar is a fairly quick and simple process and doesn't cost much (a couple of hundred riyals). I personally think it was worth it, rather than selling it in Saudi. If I had sold it in Saudi I would probably have lost some 15-20k riyals on the deal.

Find out on your side of the fence what it will take to export the car. Go to some export company like Kanoo or East West for starters. Or find one of the good Egyptian used car dealers there and ask him.

That Pajero is a good vehicle for here and will keep its value. Forget the LR2, nothing plummets faster than the value of a Land Rover. And it is likely to get worse now that the company is being sold to India.

Cheers for the feedback, i think your right the prices do look a bit more on the expensive side. I think i'll stick to my Pajero.  Looks like I'll be swatting up on the MOI website :-) Although the LR2 does look tempting..... P.S. What did you end up with out of interest..?

As for registration, your car dealer will do everything for you on the first year.  But if you choose to bring your Pajero here with you then you may take a look at http://www.moi.gov.qa/site/english/index.html for more information.

No I do not sell these cars, but I did my car shopping back in DEC 07 so I would like to pass on some information and ideas.

Good Luck!!

Cars are a bit expensive if compared to saudi price list but thers not much difference...

Mitsubishi Pajero V6 is somewhere around 116,000. Land cruisers have a big range EFI 4500, GX, GXR and VXR, but nobody sells Toyota as cheeper as Abdul Latif Jameel...

If you are coming to Qatar on your final exit from Saudi, i presume u dont need to pay much taxes...
