First time moving to Doha from UK

You can use your UK credit cards here in Qatar but to be on safe side it is better to have some money in pocket. Few hundred Riyals would do. Setting up a bank account is quite easy here but you will need to have your Qatar residence permit stamped on your passport. Some banks do open account for new comers at their employers' request before they are issued the work visa. You should check this with your employer.

Why are you thinking of bringing money over? If you need funds to live on initially I would use your UK account via debit or credit card. Set up your bank account when you get paid and take it from there.
