Hi there,

as many others here, I have recently accepted a position in Doha, starting in May, so I am currently preparing the relocation from Dubai. Of course, I am having a bunch of questions - some of which have been already asked and answered here, still, I´d be happy, if someone could help me a bit - All came on very short notice:

- How about the residence permit - I know You cannot have 2 residencies in the same time, so I would have to cancel my UAE one first. How long does it actually take to get the visa and is it a problem to be on a visit visa only for, let`s say the probationary period, which is quite usual in the UAE.

- How about general life in Qatar - I know it is far more quiet, which I don`t have a problem with - I am not really a bar-fly, but how is it e.g. if I would live with my girl-friend in one flat - We are planning to get married in the future, yet, not immediately. How is the feeling there, generally?

- Another important question, is the car issue - I know, I cannot import my 10 year old car (which I love!) from the UAE, but maybe someone can give me a creative idea on that?

- Last not least, I hear the accomodation prices are (more than in Dubai!) astronomic in Qatar - Simple question: Do You reckon, I can find a nice and decent flat, suitable for a couple for around 6000.- QR?

Thanks to whoever is taking some time to answer!

prices here in Doha / Qatar are high, the daily shopping things (grocery) are cheaper in Germany. Rents are sky high and 6000QAR is not enough you will get most probably a nice tent. Level up to at least 9000 / 10000 QAR then you will find something. Don’t believe what real estate promises you, landlords here are not user friendly at all they will squeeze the money out of your wallet. And all people here want to get a nice big piece off the cake, atar is a booming place (Goldtown). About your girlfriend: If she is not working here then she will not get a visa just a tourist visa for 4 weeks and then again and again. This if she is from one of the recognised countries (Brasil e.g. is NOT on the list, Germany YES). Tourist visa is now 100QAR (inflation, last year 55QAR).Inflation is the magic word here, prices are slowly creaping up, everything is more expensiv then it was last year (inflation roughly 10%). Es lässt sich hier in Qatar aushalten, wenn Fragen da sind einfach melden. Otto

IWhy can't you bring your car from dubai??? Haven't heard of that rule yet, though car dealers import cars from Dubai!

A flat for 6000? Hard to find! Maybe unfurnished! If possible get a company accom!

Anyway, willkommen in qatar und es ist echt ganz nett hier zu leben! Schoen mal wieder jemanden aus Deutschland hier zu treffen!
