The Heat!

By Gye

This may be such an obvious question for all of you who live in Qatar and are used to it but...

How do you handle the heat???

Do you just get used to it? Do you live indoors mostly? Does it govern your lives or do you get around it?

As we are thinking of moving there we would love to hear your experience,

@squarepeg "can't be done here, even in the cooler weather." Um... have you seen how packed the corniche gets with joggers? My Australian buddies are marathon runners here.

I regularly roller blade when it's cooler too...

Cool & cold!

Saves time and money going to sauna...but really, the body adapt to the element of nature..whether hot or cold. Think of the ESKIMO ---same thing how we cope with the heat of Doha.

Thanks for your answers, it is great to hear your opinions on this (except Dracula's - because I am sure there is an undersupply of caves around Doha)

Before I came here I was told not to worry about the heat because you go from your air-conditioned house into your air-conditioned car and then into your air-conditioned office, shopping mall or whatever. This is true but it also means that unless you can tolerate the heat you're stuck indoors 24/7. I don't like going to the gym, I prefer to build my exercise into my lifestyle, for example, walking as much as possible rather than taking the car. This can't be done here, even in the cooler weather. Give me northern European weather any day.

Hello Viganel,

It seems you are geting used to the temprature here. I had the same feeling and have been comparing each passing yeart with last year.

I felt the heat first time when I droped in Doha in 2004, but as each year is passing by the heat is reducing...

I love this place...

The heat has not been here this year, not like the previous years. The Combination of Heat and Humidity has not been here. And I miss it, it just crazy.

then come back when it cools off! LOL

It's only seems really hot when the humidity is high. Otherwise, dry heat and sandstorm time is not that bad.

What heat?

Easy - go from ac house to ac car to ac office and back again.

Restrict movements when outside, wear light clothing, drink lots of water (but not outdoors in Ramadan)

After a few years your blood will thin and your metabolism will alter to suit your environment.

Besides it's really only VERY hot in July and August!

Welcome to the furnace :o)
