HELP. Greedy Real estate people.
Here's my situation. I got a decent job back home and will be moving back end of the month. I have been living in this apartment for 7 months now and still have 5 months left on the contract.
I found a replacement but he wanted the contract for 1 year. So i spoke to the real estate people and they said it's fine they can just cancel my contract and give him a new one for a year. After a week or so they called the new guy to their office to sign the contract and noticed it was a 17 month contract. They said he can either take the place for 5 months or 5+12 months. They were extremely rude to him and scared him off. Now i'm left with only 5 days to try and find a replacement or i'll lose month's rent.
I feel they did it on purpose and waited until i was short on time to call the guy to sign the contract.
Is that right what they did?
Any advice?
Housing is a big problem here.....
Every country have the accomodation
to sut your stadard..... here you can
rent a house with 2 salaries.....
I suggest that you go to the relevant department of the Municipality and show proof that you are leaving town.
In the meatime, isse a letter to the landlord stating "further to my verbal advice, I shall be leaving Qatar on XX/XX/2008." If you gave the proper verbal notice timewise mention it in the letter...however, you may need to pay a month from the date of issuing the said letter.
Note in the letter to provide all pending postdated cheques.... if they fail to respond or respond negatively, call and tell them that you will be taking the matter up with the tenancy department of the baladiya...this may move things...if not go and see them, they should help to see you get out of the lease....
Unfortunately there was nothing in writing.
- If i'm leaving the country i am allowed to break the lease without losing a month's rent?
- what would happen if the check bounces when i'm gone?
I'm pissed off with them, and i know they can replace me easily, so why take more money.
Tell the landlord that leaving the country equals the legal right to terminate the remainder of the lease.
advise them to supply all balance postdated cheques or you will take the matter up with the baladiya relevant department for tenancy issues
I am assuming you gave written notice?
This may be a complete pain in the ass thing to do for you, but your best bet is to simply go into that real estate's company and pressure them. They're entirely in the wrong for misleading both u and the other person. Unfortunately companies don't make it entirely easy for people to leave the country, despite the peripatetic lives expats here lead!
