Help Solve LB's Dillemma
Hi All,
I first found the QL to get some info about deciding on relocating to Qatar, and found myself reading the posts daily with much merriment (Better than working of course). However, my Dilemma lies in wether to uproot myself from my mediocre life here and try out Qatar as a country. How is life for a single 31 y/o male in Doha? The job is with QP, and the money is good, but of course as my gran oft said, being happy is a decision.
I would like to only hear the postive aspects of life there, as I know negative perceptions are often exagerated.
Regards
LB
jjj75, unfortunatly I will not be able to make a visit, I guess I will just have to take the plunge! Aaaar!
Blow uop Doll??????where?//
ONE PLUS ONE EQUALS TO ELEVAN
think he means get a chinese - Brit loves qatar from what I can tell. you should be ok coming here, have you been here before? I would suggest a visit to Qatar if you have not!!!!
Don't do what Brit? Get the chinese or come to Doha?
Don't Do It!
you don't need a doll lazyboy..
just go to megamart, you'll get a chinese with your groceries there...
one stop shop...
"The grass is always greener...over the Septic Tank"
with that attitude you should be ok. Nice weather atm
I'll just carry a blow up doll around with me. But I'll dress her up real proper of course.
A lot of the bars have a couples only policy, but as long as you at least make a few female friends you should be fine.
Gypsy, I sort of gathered that that would have been the case, but for me at this stage in my life it is not an issue. However will I be ostracised from the community as I do not have a partner? I heard that some places you need to be a married couple to gain entry, to what extent is this? Do I need to have a wife with me to prove that I'm not some sort of sexual predator?
Oh....to be far LB, we should warn you that the ratio of men to women here is 20 men to 1 woman, so if you come here a single 30 -something you're going to leave here a single - 30 something.

any one tell me how to be or get sociable here in Doha :P
... now i've got 3 points?
CooL! I have 2 Points!
Thanks for the honest feedback. Oryx, I will try and source an entire ostrich (I am sure you need the feathers for your head-dress), however I am not sure about Ostrich and Stock import legalities in Qatar?
LazBoy, if being happy is a decision (and I agree with your gran btw), then go for it and decide to be hapy about it :-)
Good luck and welcome
Personally I love it here. As Oryx says, as long as you're sociable and out-going you should have no problems. Worst case scenario if you don't like it, you can leave. :)
i think it depends on your attitude towards life and social skills....
you can have friends from diverse backgrounds here....as long as you aren't really geeky or morose and are prepared to put some energy into things...you should be fine..
now bring me some ostrich sausage from pick and pay!!! ;)
chem eng huh ?:P man just accept ur offer and come here.. i think ur already used to the heat.. :)

And one has to add that you meet a diversity of people here in doha and the welcome is great
C'mon, it's an adventure! What will you say to yourself when you are retired and looking back at your life - that you had a chance to do something exciting and different and educational and didn't do it?
