Husband is interviewing at Doha in the next couple of weeks
We have some questions:
1) Is there recommended compounds where expats live? He will be working near WestBay
2) What is the range for a furnished villa?
3) We are wondering how many other expats are in our age range 45-55 or are most expats younger? We hang with all age friends...just wondering
4) How hard will it be for me to find a job there in HR management?
5) He will be working for one of the largest companies headquartered in Doha. Can you name the best(or worst)ones to work for as an expat...I hope you name the one he is looking at as a great one....
6) If you had to say the one thing not to forget to bring what would it be...our container is pretty large so we can bring lots
7) How hard is to get prescription drugs or vitamins, can you get them shipped easily from the USA or should we bring a year supply?
8) I will not be on this interview trip so what should he be sure to look at while he is there? Should he try to talk or meet with some of you out there?
Thank you in advance for helping me with these questions...we hope to make lots of friends when we get there!
Yes, all of that is true. Somerset is nice temporary accommodations, next to the new W Hotel, across street from City Center Mall. It's where we are staying and we find it very comfortable and convenient.
Most companies will provide at least temporary accomodation while you look around (generally for about 3 months).
At last DaRuDe is giving a wise statement.
Let him finish all formalities and then he can start looking seriously for a villa.
Usually the procedure here is as follows:
1. Sign contract
2. Company prepare visa
3. Employee arrives in Doha. Immediate accommodation should be agreed on. ie where to stay prior to finalizing the formalities. Usually you should be getting one or two weeks at least as remporary accomm.
4. Medical Exam.
5. Finger prints after passing the medical exam
6. Residency stamped after pasing security verification and screening.
7. Start the hastle of renting a villa and buying a car and all other stuff.
He can simply look around for villas and have an idea. That is all what he can do during his 2 days visit
Dont rush for the house. lets hope he passes the interview and go through medical check up and finger prints then take ur time to find a villa for a reasonable price.

He is coming in on 04 Aug and will have one day interview and one day to look around. Should he meet with a real estate agent or what would you recommend he do that day? Should he take the visa medical exam so we know if we have any issues before we move there?
Thank you so much for all of your advise...you have been most kind!
good luck!!
west bay area compound : Al Jazi, Gulf Helicopter, Riviera Garden, Al Markhiya Garden, Al Markhiya Complex I and II.
Range furnished villa 20.000 QR and above.
Expat in Doha come from all walk of life and wide range age
You can get most stuffs in Doha, depend what you look for. But kitchen and house appliance are pretty complete and available here.
Drug or vitamins not too sure. But we have a problem to get a evening primrose oil or fish oil tablet, we normally bring our own supply from the UK.
I am not too sure what do u mean with what to look for. If i may suggest, make sure the house rent is fully cover by company (not giving you allowance).
Good luck with the move.
1. There are many compunds in west bay area and other areas as well, west bay is the most expensive usually.
2. Furnished villas inside compounds would cost around 20000 QRs. west bay villas are a bit more expensive.
3. There are many expats your age range.
4. Not difficult to find a job for yourself
5. No comment
6. Everything is available here
7. Prescription drugs could not be available here. also you cannot get it unless you have prescription from a local clinic. Better get a yearly supply. Vitamins and substitues are available here.
8. He should have a clear contract and make sure that all benefits are written.
He is welcome to contact me and guess many members here are very helpful and cooperative.
