Import Duty on Electronic Products

There are quite a few threads on import duty when people move to Doha and it seems that most goods are not taxed.

My question is once you have residency is the duty 5% if one was to import a TV or notebook or other electronic product from Hong Kong or the USA?

Has anyone paid this duty on importation once a resident?
If so, where do you pay it?

In reading these posts am I right in assuming that if I want to buy a set of golf clubs for QR3000 from Ebay UK and get them posted to Qatar, I should ask the guy at the golf shop I am buying from to write their value at say QR900 and not put the company name on the package, maybe right the senders details with my last name to pretend a relative has sent them to me.......I would love to hear some more peoples thoughts.

Thanks

The qatar Customs will charge you 5% for anything that has a bill for above 500QR + Legalisation charges too. Not easy as we think.....

WHO SAYS ENGLISH IS AN EASY LANGUAGE?  FILL IN THE BLANKS WITH YES/NO   only. (1) __ I DON'T HAVE SENSE. (2) __ I AM STUPID. (3) ____ I DONT HAVE BRAIN.

There DEFINITELY IS duty on any product worth 3000 Riyals or more (sometimes 2000 Riyals it seems) that you import into Qatar as I have found out to my dismay.

Furthermore, if sent by Fedex or DHL, and a company name is used, you will be charged AT LEAST 350 Riyals on top of Duty for "Legalization Fee".  I won't even pretend to assume to understand this fee.

So be prepared to pay duty. I get my mail at my company's PO address as it is impossible to get my own mail box.  So now I just use their PO address with my name only so that I don't get charged this Legalization Fee.
