Importing cars to Qatar...does anybody have experience with taxes, paperwork etc.?
I am moving to Qatar soon and I was just wondering if anybody has practical experience on importing their cars to Qatar? I have a one-year-old BMW and I really would like to move it also. I can easily put it into my sea container...I am only worried about the possible import taxes and complicated paperwork hassle. Anybody experience with that?
Thanks!
I am also considering moving my 2008 Honda Oddyssey (van) to Doha in August 2009...
So I guess if the car is bought for US$30,000, the import tax would be around US$1,500?
How much would the shipping from US to Qatar cost?
Would it be a wise move to have a one-year old car shipped to Qatar, or sell it in the US and buy a similar model there?
Also, is there anyone who knows contact information of Qatari government agencies where we can ask questions...
Thanks in advance.
thanks, this is very helpful. 5% import tax sounds OK...I just have to give some more thought to the warranty issue!
I don’t know about the cost of repairing the car here, but I shipped my car to Qatar and it only will cost you 5% of the value of the car and if you don’t have an invoice to prove the price of the car they will evaluate the price of the car for you, taking into consideration that you have to pay registration and insurance…and that’s it good luck…and if you have more question just ask :)
Just wanted to bring to your attention that your warranty will be most likely voided once it's shipped out side your home country. It's very expensive to fix your car here if it's not under warrenty. You will pay 5% for custom. Also i was told that the dealer will give you hard time when it's time to service/fix the car once they find out the car was purchased from overseas. Because of all the above i decided not to ship my car and i ended up buying it from here. Hope this helps. Good luck
