Is it worth it to have an iPhone in Doha?

I'd like to buy an iPhone (maybe a used one from a seller since that seems to be my only option).

Is it worth it to have one? I mean, do the features, including GPS, work well here? And is it super-duper expensive to get a plan that works with it?

Any insights, pluses and minuses would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks Everyone! (Sorry if this is an oooold topic, too: I'm brand new here although I joined this Qatar Living service a while back to research stuff.)

I think the iPhone is indeed worth it. You can also find the Qtel settings on my blog.

I've had an iPhone since November 2007 and I love it. I do realise it doesn't have a couple of features but in all honesty these are features I never used, or rarely used, on my other phones. I have just upgraded to an iPhone 3G and I love it. The software on the iPhone is upgraded regularly by plugging into iTunes, so new features are added all the time. It's an amazing phone and one which I wouldn't be without now. It also looks gorgeous.

Loistella - There are a few places which will unblock for you, just ask in certain phone shops. I came across one in City Centre Mall.

I have one - need it unlocked (if anyone knows where to do that).

Wouldn't want another phone - it is the best in my opinion.

this has got nothing to do with Qatar, but just clarifying I-phone is awesome! at least it works fantastic in North America (causing Blackberry to launch a touch screen model too). I maintain all my bank accounts, expense statements, Search around, stream on-line radios, check & type e-mails and what not......

I can say this for sure as I have used Nokia N series before. Technology is to be exploited not just possessed...:)

With iPhone you get lots of applications and services available. If you are someone who has extra money and wants the new innovation, you should buy an iPhone.

Its not worth having an iphone at all!

You cant set your own ringtones

Bluetooth File Transfer is only Iphone to iphone or Iphone to MAc

Camera has no flash

MMS Feature is not there

Wait for a month. Vodafone will launch the iPhone, and all your questions will be answered.

For me, I'd never go with a touchscreen only phone. Tactile feedback is really important to me. I don't want to be looking at the phone screen to do basic stuff like answer a call.
