Kahramma connection

Hi All,

I am soon shifting in a new apartment (from 1st Mar) and wanted to know how do I transfer the electricity and water connection in my name.

Currently there is an existing tenant whose contract ends on 29th February and I have been told that the connection is in his name?

What I have gathered from enquiring with various sources is that I will have to go to Kahramma with the deposit money, contract copy and Qatari ID and fill the form for E&W for existing apts.

However, some people also told me that I would have to take the old tenant along so that he can close his account, settle his balances and only then will the connection be transferred in my name

Am a little confused with the process now ? Whether I really need the existing tenant with me at Kahramaa office ?

Also is the process different if the electricity connection is in the name of the landlord and not the tenant ?

Your inputs will be a great help !!!

You can do it both ways, you can take the existing tenant along with you OR you could go alone, but ONLY AFTER he closes his balance with Kahramaa.

Actually, the fact is, you can take over the connection ONLY AFTER he has closed his existing connection with the premises. So in order for HIM to do that, he has to take the present Electricity/Water reading and go to Kahrama office, take a Kahrama officer along with him and physically check the meters and shut it down. After that you can go on your OWN, and take over the connection, giving the necessary application (your rental agreement, QTD, etc.).

Instead of going through all this, the easier method is, both of you take the last reading, go together, he settles his final payment, you take over the connection at the same time. So you wouldn't need to take a Kahramaa officer to the sight for connection / disconnection.

Hope you got that clear.
