Nanny/Childminder

Hi everyone. Would anyone be able to advise how easy it is to arrange a nanny/maid in Doha, and how much a full-time one might cost? I have two young children who will need minding during the daytime when I move to Doha.
Thanks a million!

getting "knocked up" then don't have a maid. Problem solved. It's much better than treating them like a slave or a child. Your daughter may get "knocked up" so will you never allow her out of the house either? Incredibly ignorant people!!!!

The "poor girls" are well educated and end up as maids because some smarta55 agent in their home country duped them. They can make informed decisions on their own for themselves.

Kareena - not giving a day off - you are all heart

It is the LAW that they are allowed a day off, not giving them a day off you are committing an offence!

Not only that, they even did a DNA test of my friend's husband lest that it could be his baby but then it got cleared up.. As it happened, she used to party just once a week with some old friends.. The agency came and got the first maid and she was jailed for few months and then deported, not sure what happened with the baby. The next time when my friend got a maid, she made sure she never let her have a day off outside the house.. She has a day off on Friday when she is not required to work and she goes out with my friend and her husband to a fancy restaurant and even take her out for a movie once in a while but always chaperoned.. As they say once bitten twice sly..

I am just saying that it happens and I have heard many such cases in Qatar.. People like us are educated and we know what one should do in order to NOT to get knocked up.. But these poor girls are not aware of such things and it is more likely that they end up getting pregnant.. One of my very close friends has gone thru this ordeal. Her filipino maid got pregnant right in front of her nose just because she let her out of her sight once every week..

Yup we locked up all our female employees after work, can't afford to have a knocked up employee.

Oh, dear, I give my housekeeper 2 days off a week. Does that mean she's twice as likely to come back pregnant? Well, considering she's married, I guess it's not a problem!

do you get a day off at your work place?

Or are you a slave with no day off, cause your employer might fear, you'll arrive at work "knocked up" one day?

"That is a bit risky letting them out like that.." What are they? Prisoners....?

Thank goodness I don't work for you.... would have inspired me to run away by now!

Are you serious about giving them a day off? What if she comes back knocked up? I have heard of many cases where the nanny / maid gets pregnant.. That is a bit risky letting them out like that..

i find that through an agency you need to pay 8000 reals ...and then the salary needs to be above 1000 per month... -

you need to provide her with a decent room and i advise that you have a small fridge freezer ther for her own food too...

you will need to provide the basics - one day off a week .... and then a ticked home every 2 years....

through an agency the only benefit from what i can see is really the fact that if it doesnt work out they will arrange for another maid to start straight away and replace this one - so you have insurances like that sort of speak by going with an agency.

if its a private hire then there is visa transfer which could cost 1700 - 5000 reals to transfer her visa from the existing family over to your family ... plus salary ...

this way takes longer to find but in my opinion a bit more worth not so costly ..

good luck

It will initially cost you about QR10,000 to sponsor a nanny - visa costs, plane ticket etc.

Once here, a salary of not less than QR1,500 is fair - Please do take a look at threads on QL with regards to people paying less - its basically slave labour.

It all depends on whether you will buy her neccessities or she will need to buy them herself.

Typically you would be expected to pay

Salary - QR1,500

Accomodation

Food

Transport

Allowance for 1day off

You might want to buy her neccessities too, like clothing and toiletries and pay her transport for her day off. If you decide to let her buy that herself, then its better if you raise her salary a bit.

Accomodation and food is a given benefit, if she is live in.

If not a live-in the salary should go up to about QR2,500 - QR3,000.

Does the maid get 10.000 Riyals initially? Or is this the going rate for human trafficking?

You can sponsor a maid and bring her over to Doha through one of the many maid service companies in Doha.

She will cost around QAR 10,000 initially. Then you pay her a salary of QAR700-1000 Riyals per month.
