needs help on wireless networking..
By viper_smith •
guys and gals i need your help please,
i need to buy a wireless network adapter for my PC, which brand/make do you think is the best. i'm looking for using it in making internet-based calls and video streaming. can anyone please tell me where to get one in Doha as well?
thanks a lot.
Once you have your wireless router, PM me if you need the configuration.

The subscription speed for Mozaic connection is 512 Kbps but in real its 1MB...512Kb is dedicated to the internet connection and the 512 Kb is for video streaming. The only problem with mozaic is area limitation. It is NOT feasible for all Qatar. The Wireless I3 router range is from 15-20 Meters, depends upon the area. i.e. if there are walls in between source and receiver your signal strength will be less...

samiko - internet connection speed is currently measured in kilo-bits per second or mega-bits per second. I think qtel offer consumers speeds of 512kb/s (half meg), 1mb/s and 2mb/s.
It will be a happy day when they start offering giga-bit per second connections!!!
Tallg, I think it's gig, because half or even 2 meg for internet speed is nothing.
viper_smith, there is onother brand which is also very good - netgear. You may chech also in PC1 shop on Salwa road.
The new system from Q-Tel (Mozaic TV+) is one of the best internet connections right now. We have both at home, Mozaic and wireless (as they come together) and I have had this now for 2 years and have no complaints about the connection or server. I also have a separate wireless connection, which surprisingly is slower than the mozaic connection. Hope this helps

Your wireless or wired network will not be the limiting factor when it comes to bandwidth for internet-based calls and video streaming, as either will be faster than your actual internet connection. The speed of your internet (half meg, 1 meg, 2 meg etc) will be the limiting factor.
i'll check this two brands out! maybe they're really the best bets.
'nyway, can you please tell me whether or not wired internet connection is still faster than wireless? knowing that technologies are quickly being updated today, is wireless still lagging behind? in my case, i'll be about 10 meters away from the router but cable routing is one of the difficulties i can see. will wireless connection be disadvantageous or maybe more appropriate? has anyone actually tried comparing both setups?
