I will be traveling on a direct flight JFK to Doha with my dog. I'm really nervous and wondering if anybody else has done this. Any tips?

He should be fine. Is he used to a crate?

I read already no tranqs I was gonna put his ball in there but after reading this will re think it. The pooch pads should work but for some reason he dislikes them and eats them (unused). We are paying for help with the paper work. We also got a large bottle that works similar to a gerbil bottle which he seems to like. He has never flown and is a coward so it's a huge worry. Thanks everyone for helping

I assume you have already organised the vacinations, import licence etc. Also that the dog will be travelling as checked-in baggage, rather than cargo or cabin. We have done this to Europe and back with no problems. Do not traquilise the dog. Do not leave toys or ropes etc in the kennel. We put a water container in the freezer and fixed it to the inside of the travel kennel, that way it was ice at the start of the trip, does not easily spill but provides it with a drink as it melts. At Doha airport they bring the dog to the out-size baggage area, to the extreme right of the baggage reclaim area, you can go and wait there and ask about the dog. Just walk out through the green channel. Like I said, there was no problem, dog was fine, many people do it.

You can also buy a product called pooch pads online that will help keep your dog dry during the flight. As for KIQ - the comment was obnoxious no matter how funny you thought you were, the OP was looking for serious advice not a pseudo comedian

Wow. Obnoxious? This is light-hearted humour. Wait 'till you get here, then you will see obnoxious. I was just trying to help. Take a chill pill. Sheesh

Will he be under the seat or in cargo? My recommendation is that you not tranquilize him. Dogs really don't like bring stoned. They tend to go into sleep/hibernation mode if left to themselves anyway. Don't feed him right before the trip, he'll be fine for that amount of time without food. Do give him water. If you travel in the summer months make sure the airline isn't embargoing pets due to extreme heat.

Make sure that the person sitting next to your dog likes dogs. If he doesn't eat all of his inflight meals, make sure you take a doggy-bag home. It would be helpful if the inflight entertainment played Lassie, or had quality music for him to listen to, such as Snoop Dog's Doggy Style album.

It's gonna be boring for your dog.
