Qatar Airways and weight limit

Hi

I'm wondering how sticky Qatar Airways is with the checked-in luggage weight... And do they weigh our hand luggage as well?

Thanks

I was quite shocked too, when I called in and realized the total amount...could have bought an extra ticket with that ;-)

If you'v got their privillege card you get some extra allowance of about 10 kg above their normal allowance. i think that makes it 20 + 10

Plus, if your card gets upgraded ... like burgundy to silver to gold etc, the allowance also increase.

But like someone said, no one seems to be able to confirm the official policy at the check-in counter. But i travel quite frequently and i'v learnt one policy that when you are over, just don't ask questions. If you ask questions like how much weight is allowed, can i put this in the luggage too, am i over etc etc he might change is mind. In fact i once felt that there are supervisers doing the round and if too many questions are asked, obviously it gets noticed.

In addition, one 7 kg hand bag and a laptop bag is allowed.

Paula, wow, i had no idea they charged so much per kg. Luckily, my 3-5 kg extra has always been overlooked.

have fun

I think it's the same in economy, because I've never had an issue with luggage and I've gone over quite a number of times :)

I had two suitcases and one beauty case - in total 56 kg - and two pieces of hand carried luggage. First I wanted to check in economy - they were extremely strict, 1 piece of hand luggage which is not allowed to weigh more than 7 kg and has to have certain measurements. For the suitcases, they allow 20 kg and that's it - not even sports equipment, which is usually allowed in addition, is allowed (only when it is included in the 20 kg). Then I bought an upgrade to business class, where they usually allow 32 kg, and, hamdulillah, nobody was asking for the additonal 24 kg... They usually charge 33 Euro per kg excess luggage, which is around 170 QR per kg....

So in business class, I guess it depends on the person who's checking you in and how generous they are, but in economy they are extremely strict.

Good luck!

30kg, and no bag can exceed that in general.

You can only go over (with additional luggage) if you pay for it. The charges are equal to international standard charges.

As for going over. It varies on location, destination, and friendliness :)

Christa, the allowed weight for business class is 30 kg for checked in luggage (unless it's a transatlantic flight, then the weight goes up to 2x32 kg) and 15 kg for hand luggage (2 pieces).

I just hope I get someone nice at the check in counter : )

What's the allowed weight for checked in luggage for business class?

Per luggage and in total.

and on how strict they are, very strict, there's already a memo from their CEO to strictly comply with the weight limit. and this is being implemented for everyone's safety.

Novita, I think he meant Syrup whhich according do Wikipedia is:

a syrup (from Arabic شراب sharab, beverage, via Latin siropus) is a thick, viscous liquid, containing a large amount of dissolved sugars, but showing little tendency to deposit crystals. The viscosity arises from the multiple hydrogen bonds between the dissolved sugar, which has many hydroxyl (OH) groups, and the water.

Technically and scientifically, the term syrup is also employed to

denote viscous, generally residual, liquids, containing substances

other than sugars in solution. Artificial maple syrup is made with

water and an extremely large amount of dissolved sugar. The solution is

heated so more sugar can be put in than normally possible. The solution

becomes super-saturated.

Have a nice evening, btw  Qatar Airways are very strict on overweight , far more strct than other airlines i've used in the past.

hand carried luggage has a minimum of 7 kg, and what i know there is also a limit in its dimension. this is to prevent damaging the overhead bin, and at the same time preventing any accident that might happen during flight (i.e. accidental falling of luggage on another pax head during flight)

Really, depends on the person who checks you in.  Some are sticklers and some don't care if you are carrying a suitcase full of concrete.

Good luck gettting the latter!

I've tried many, many times to get the "official Qatar airways policy" on various things but if the person checking you in doesn't feel like following it that day there's not much you can do...

They won't let it by if not to the limit-they will charge. And its a high charge.
