Question on Cars...
Hi all
I am moving to Doha late January and have a few questions about cars. There will only be myslef and wife, so we do not need a huge vehicle.
It would appear, from reading the forums, that a lot of people buy suv's. Is this for off roading or more for protection and size on the roads?
Is it normal to purchase a new vehicle or are there good secondhand vehicles available?
Anyone had any experience with secondhand purchases?
I suppose with secondhand cars they may be out of warranty and maybe dearer to services and run.
I am from Australia and would be happier with a Japanese or European car; prefer to shy away from the American ones.
I have seen some refernces to car prices, mainly suv's, is there a web site that may have new car prices.
At the end of teh day I want a reliable car that wont cost a fortune; rather use my money for travel etc.
Look forward to your thoughts.
Cheers
the cheapest SHOGUN 5 doors is 26k in the UK!!
ossy, yeah I looked at pajeros on line but they seem to go under the 'shogun' in the UK...but actually I think they are alot different....can't beat a pajero, but I'm biased now lol

just looking at the specs but I think the specs in the UK are different to those in Qatar. Can't see the GSL but I am sure its a good one. The Pajero was in my shortlist before I decided to go for the Santa Fe.
ANd it is in my shortlist now!! Just hope they still have some deals around when I arrive late August.
From the Mitsubishi garage near Landmark.....thats for a GLS 3.0 Five door, so pretty good!

Thank supernurse. :) i'm still looking around for the best possible deal.
Anybody have any idea on which is the best SUV to get. my budget is up to QR120,000.
that sounds like a very good deal! Just been looking at the new pajero online and it does the trick!!!!
Where from if you dont mind asking?
thanks bishop. I will be given a free interest loan by my employer and a monthly transport allowance of QR2000. So i guess the loan I would have to negotiate with the bank would be about 50k probably at 5 years.
I guess I will just have to shop around and try to find the best deal like in the uk.
Same everywhere!
thanks for help.
111,000 with free bloody quad bike and other bits....

Ossy.. the monthly amortization depends on what bank your goin to avail it, the interest rate and the terms (how long) of the payment.
if your going to use the loan to buy a car, i suggest you just avail of a car loan, the interest is much much lower.
very good thread, thanks for info.
Does anyone know what would be the monthly payments for a loan of QR100,000? I also want to buy a 4X4 when I move to Qatar and having been looking at pros and cons of buying new or second hand, it seems that it is safer to buy it new.
By the way Novita, we have a Hyundai Santa Fe in the UK, and it's the best car I have ever driven. It was top of the range so all high specs and I feel so sorry to have to sell it here...but no choice I'm afraid!
Any websites anyone?
Mannai Corporation is the subaru dealer at qatar. They are doing good business now.
may god bless all
believe half ofd what you see and nothing of what you hear
Mannai Corporation is the dealer for Subaru in Qatar. Their service centre is the best as well.
I know there is a local subaru dealer, but I don't know where it is offhand.
prado full but not leather sests , 130.000
I always tell the truth, even when I lie
I'm coming over to Doha from Bahrain next month.
I will be bringing our Subaru (forrester) for my wife's use - does anyone know if there's a Subaru dealer / service center in Doha?
Also - does anyone know the price (approximately will do) of a new Toyota Prado?
Suits the roads here...
Beleive it or not but the Pajero was my wife's choice!! Its a big car with 3000 cc Engine. The only downside is that its a bit noisy. you can hear the engine a little bit as you drive. Other than that its works for me.
I wanted to buy an American car but after checking the local market market I discovered that American cars lose value as soon as you buy them!! you always better off with Toyota, Nissan & Mitsubishi.
Let me know how you get on with your Pajero? We plan to change car but no idea what to get. Hubby want to get another Santa Fe Hyundai. But they only make 1 type now which is the most expensive one 105.000 QR, i told him it would about the same price with Pajero. So better if he get Pajero not the Santa Fe.
I bought my Pajero for 100,000 QR including insurance. There are 3 types, Low for 95,000, Medium for 100,000 and high for 107,000. The reason that I did not buy the high spec Pajero is that in Qatar I would never buy a leather seated car :)
But Again, I managed to get these prices after negotiating with the dealer. I managed to get myself a 5000 QR discount
Thanks for your comments. Do you mind me asking the price of the Pajero?
Lots of expat doing dune trip on the weekend with the families. You can't do that without SUV. Thats the other reason for having a SUV.
Hello and welcome to Qatar
most reason why Most people buy SUV's is because Qatar roads are really bad. Only the highways are smooth (most of them), other than that, either roads have holes or holes have roads :)
Cars loans here makes it easier for you to buy brand new cars.
To me, buying a second hand car is like buying a lottery ticket. I have never won lottery in my life ;)
I just bought my Pajero GLS 2007 last week. I was hunting for a car for the past 2 months and I have visited all car showrooms in Doha. Because of the holidays, most companies are having promotions. This is the best time to buy a car.
I hope that ur accomodation is already taken care of or you will have a big surprise.
Agian Welcome to Qatar, The land of high rents with no reason :)
