Ras Laffan
Hi,
Does anyone know how living is in Ras Laffan?
I have already contacted the petrelocators for help to get our dog in the country. She is a lovely boxer called Dorcas. Does aynone have experience with a same situation what the special permission is concerned?
Thanks for any answers

Hi everyone,
I'm new to this forum. My husband might be getting a job in qatar and the company is in or is Ras Laffan. I have so many questions about living in Qatar especially the cost of living including housing, transport(buying one), preschool (2 1/2 year old), groceries, furniture, telecommunications, healthcare, work(psychologist by profession), labour laws, etc. please help. thank you.
the distance from Doha to ras laffan is from 70 to 90km depending on where you stay in doha, you can expect to be on the road for 1 hour in the morning and 1 in the afternoon.
I'm glad you din't have any problem with your dogs. For us it's diferent story.
Our dog is a lovely boxer, Dorcas, and it seems that boxers are not allowed in to the country. We are trying to get a special permit from the minister of agriculture, so she can come with us. She has no where else to go so ...
If you have any other tips, there always more than welcome!
By the way where from Belgium
regards

Thanks for your respons.
We will only know for shore within a month or so. It will be Doha or Ras Laffan.
But know i at least have an idea if there was something around Ras Laffan.
Do you have any idea what the distant is from Doha to Ras Laffan?
Hi - we brought our 2 mini schnauzers into Qatar in January - we had no problem, just needed up to date vaccines and health certificate (we came from the U.S.) - I know there are certain breeds that are banned in Qatar - boxer's may be one of them. If you're in the States, call the Qatari Embassy in Washington, D.C. - don't have the number, but you can get it from Information. I called them before we left just to make sure I had all my bases covered. Good luck!
We're going to Al Wadi Compund. The HR guy for Qatar Gas said Al Khor was full.
Hi Muizeke,
I am not sure if there is housing in Ras Laffan but you may likely mean the housing in Al-Khor which is near Ras Laffan and about 45 minutes north of Doha. Al-Khor is a quiet community complete with a medical facility, a small supermarket and 2 or 3 primary schools. The commute from Al-Khor to Ras Laffan would be quite short. However most of your shopping and entertainment would be in Doha.

There are family villas in a compound near raslaffan. I cannot remember the name of the place, but it is in line with the Medical centre. And it looks lovely.
I wanted to experience the transport service "Mawasalat" and they stop right in front of the housing compound, and then proceed to the Medical facility which is huge.
It is not exactly raslaffan but dhakira, which is a 5 minute drive from raslaffan. Raslaffan is the name of the area where you have the refinery, so no one will/can live there, regardless of skilled or unskilled workers.
are you sure you are moving to ras laffan? it is an developing industrial city, with housing only for unskilled workers.
Here's what official info I could find:
"Pets entering Qatar require an import permit from the Ministry of Agriculture. Cats with proper documentation are allowed to enter with no difficulty, but some breeds of dogs, especially large dogs, are not admitted. Application forms for import permits may be obtained from the Ministry of Agriculture through a sponsoring employer. A copy of the pet's health certificate and vaccination record must be submitted with the application."
