Recommended neighborhoods/rental agents

Hi all,

I will be moving to Doha in June for work.

I have been offered an allowance to find my own accommodation (about 7k for housing and transportation).

It is not much, but I will be relocating alone and would like to ask if anyone knows any reputable agents that can help me find a rental flat. I will be working in the Al Jasra neighborhood so somewhere within close driving distance to this area is preferred (taking into account of traffic!).

I may ship my furniture, so semi furnished is ok for me. I would rather live simply and save some of my allowance.

What can I get for around 3500 QAR?

Thanks!

Hi Lucky,

You previously mentioned the flats in the Ezdan compounds were about 3750 per month, but that was almost two months ago.

The 2 bed flats are not going for 6000 per the website.

Are you aware of the 1 bed rooms are available?

Cheers,

Jeff

=/ is my package really that bad? It's around 26k total for 6 years of experience.

By the way are these flats furnished? I was planning to ship my furniture but it seems like a hassle.

And what is the commute time like from Wakra to Al Jasra in the morning? I have to get to work at 8 AM.

My current commute is about an hour one way.

Thanks!

I'm not getting' this. The tight budget thing doesn't completely compute.

He is not the only American in Ezdan. There are others as well especially those who are working in UMM Said.

He also welcome to hang around with me :)

Well, it does sound like you get a lot for your money. But I'm pretty sure he's going to be the only single American engineer there! And there won't be much traffic in Wakra, you'll have to travel 30 minutes to get stuck in traffic. Where you're working makes that inevitable.

Mandi - Don't B.S. people. I live in Wakra and I know all these compounds well. Tell me which area in Qatar is Dust Free. Whole Qatar is a Construction site. Do you know it is faster to reach City Center from Wakra than from say Salwa Road or C Ring Road with new highways. Who said there is traffic in Wakra?

Jtching7 - You will not get 1 BR apartment in Wakra. All are rented in advance. Your best bet is 2BR @ rate of QR 3750/month including unlimited water & Electricity. This is very handy as you can switch on all 3 of your A/C's 24 Hours a day x 365 days without bothering about the W&E bill.

Don't go to Agents. Rent directly from Ezdan site office.

Well, if you don't mind living in a box in a small, dusty village far, far away from the city where you will work and socialize and shop, go right ahead! Traffic? Bad? Ask anyone!

Hi again, I am happy with the overall package. I have a shipping allowance.

What is wrong with Wakra? It seems the Ezdan Village 3 have some quite affordable flats at 3250 for 1 bedroom. Google map says it will take less than 30 minutes to drive to Al Jasra...but I suspect this is incorrect. How bad is the traffic if I lived in Wakra.

Do you have any suggestions on agents, etc or neighborhoods?

I commute from Wakara to Lusail daily. 45 Minutes max.

No Agent is needed. They don't deal with agents. Go directly to the Ezdan office at the particular compound. Apoartments are Fully Furnished.

J, don't mean to be nosy but that's the lowest housing allowance I've ever heard for an American! What happened? And no, you don't want to commute from Wakra, for heaven's sake! Is someone paying your shipping? Otherwise it's not worth it.

Hi Lucky, can you recommend an agent? Also, is that for an semi-furnished or furnished flat?
